Platteville, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team wrapped up its 2023-24 dual season with a 49-0 victory at UW-Platteville Tuesday night in the Center for the Arts. The Eagles, ranked third in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), improve to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers drop to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

With the win, UWL improves to 83-9 all-time in WIAC duals under head coach
Dave Malecek. He has led the Eagles to six undefeated (5-0) conference dual seasons in the last eight years.

Quintin Wolbert and
Zach Weiler opened the dual with technical falls. Wolbert defeated Jack Sullivan at 125-pounds (20-4, 4:39) while Weiler defeated Chris Karbash at 133 (19-1, 3:37).
Kaiden Schrandt gave UWL a 13-0 lead with a decision (5-1) over Alec Schmacht at 141-pounds. Second-ranked
Tyler Goebel followed with a win by fall (2:21) over Trent DuMont at 149-pounds.
At 157-pounds,
Cole Hansen extended the lead to 23-0 with a major decision (8-0) over David Cushman.
Noah Leisgang, ranked eighth at 165-pounds, won by fall (1:00) over Cole Smith and
Eddie Simes earned a major decision (16-4) over Ryan Pothoff at 174.

UWL competed the shutout with wins from
Marcus Orlandoni,
Ben Kawczynski and
Michael Douglas. Ninth-ranked Orlandoni won by technical fall (20-4, 4:45) over Marty Koenig at 184-pounds. Kawczynski, ranked third at 197, won by fall (2:11) over Alex Ashauer and Douglas, also ranked third in the NWCA, won by technical fall (22-4, 5:50) over Dylan Warren at 285.
UWL returns to action Saturday, February 17 at the WIAC Championships at UW-Platteville.
