Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed in the UW-Eau Claire Don Parker Open Saturday in the McPhee Physical Education Center. No team scores were recorded.
The Eagles had eight wrestlers place on Saturday, including a pair of fourth-place finishes.
Eddie Simes went 2-2 at 174-pounds to finish fourth while
Sam Schwabe finished 3-1 at 184-pounds to place third. Simes lost by sudden victory (4-1) to Jude Link of St. Cloud State University (Minn.) in the third-place match while Schwabe was forced to medically forfeit to Gavin Kohel of UW-Whitewater. Schwabe had a pair of wins by fall on Saturday.
Camren Dennee (174) and
Gabe Carter (184) each finished fifth with 3-1 records. Dennee took fifth with a sudden victory (5-2) over Preston Carlisle of UW-Eau Claire while Carter won by decision (10-7) over Mac Copeland of St. Cloud State (Minn.).
UWL's
Kaiden Schrandt (141) and
Joe Penchi (157) both placed sixth on Saturday while
Matt Haldiman (133) and
Cooper Larson (157) were seventh. Schrandt went 2-2, dropping the fifth-place match by decision (4-2) to Andrew Kested of UW-Eau Claire. Penchi, who finished 3-2, lost by decision (4-2) to Augsburg University's (Minn.) Karsen Otis for fifth. Haldiman and Larson both went 3-2 in the tournament. Haldiman took seventh-place with a medical forfeit over Ashton Clark of St. Cloud State (Minn.) while Larson finished seventh with a medical forfeit over Colton Bornholdt of St. Cloud State (Minn.). Larson had one win by fall.
Cole Hansen (157) and
Tate Flege (165) both won consolation titles. Hansen went 4-1, taking the crown with a decision (3-1) over Blake Legred of St. Cloud State (Minn.) while Flege finished 3-1 (two wins by fall) with a major decision (11-2) over teammate
Brett Skaug.
The Eagles'
Gavin Peterson (133),
Talan Schutte (149) and Skaug (165) all dropped the consolation title match. Peterson finished 2-1 with Schutte and Skaug each went 3-2. Skaug had two wins by fall.
UWL's
Owen Foster (157) went 2-2 with one win by fall while
Zach Eliszewski (165),
Cameron Jacobs (165) and
Ben Draveling (197) all finished 1-2. Draveling had one win by fall.
Cael Weinzweig (125) went 0-2.
