Men's Track and Field

Eagles Win WIAC Title; Claims 21st in Last 22 Years; Captures Five Events on Second Day

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday afternoon. It is the Eagles league record 47th conference title in program history and 21st in 22 years.

THE BASICS
  • Team Results: UWL won with 242.5 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 161 points. In third place was UW-Eau CLaire with 85 points while UW-Whitewater finished fourth (73 points), UW-Stout fifth (48.5 points), UW-Stevens Point sixth (23 points), UW-Platteville seventh (20 points) and UW-River Falls eighth (nine points). 
  • Location: Leonard "Squig" Converse Track at Kachel Fieldhouse, Whitewater, Wis.
  • Up next: Prior to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor Championship March 8-9, UWL will have individuals compete at either the Wartburg College Qualifier on March 1 or the UW-La Crosse Qualifier on March 2nd

THE RESULTS

    FIELD EVENTS
  • Triple Jump - The Eagles placed four jumpers in the triple jump with William Cady leading the way with a second place finish (47-11 1/4). In fourth place was Brody Kluge with a mark of 46-4 3/4 while Carter Pearson was fifth (46-4 3/4) and Nick Crary sixth (46-2).  
  • High Jump - Nathan Andringa finished second in the high jump with a jump of 6-9 1/2 while Mitchell Eldredge was eighth (6-4 1/4). 
  • Weight Throw - Aiden Williams and Logan Powers each placed for the Eagles in the weight throw. Williams finished fourth with a mark of 60-3 3/4 while Powers was fifth with a throw of 59-3 1/2. 

    TRACK EVENTS 
  • 60-meter hurdles - Luke Schroeder defended his 2023 WIAC Indoor title in the 60-meter hurdles by finishing first with a time of 7.91. Chad Thompson Jr. (8.19) and Lukas Johnson (8.31) finished third and sixth respectively to also earn a trip to the podium. 
  • 60-meter dash – Like Schroeder, Sam Blaskowski defended his 2023 WIAC Indoor title in the 60-meter dash by running a time of 6.69. Also scoring for the Eagles was Ryder Smith as he finished eighth (6.93). Action Photo
  • 200-meter - Winning his second WIAC Championship of the day was Schroeder as he finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.59. Also placing for the Eagles was Collin Conzemius in fourth place (22.01) and Ethan Turbeville in fifth (22.16).
  • 800-meter - Cael Schoemann won a WIAC Championship in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:51.51. Parker Heintz (1:53.84) and Elias Ritzke (1:54.51) finished fourth and eighth respectively for the Eagles. 
  • 3000-meter run – The Eagles had three runners place in the 3000-meter run with Corey Faichild (8:28.46) finishing fourth while Zach Slevin (8:31.06) finishing sixth and Parker Huhn 8:33.30 was seventh. 
  • 4x400 meter Relay - The relay team of Davis Wenthe, Chase Doonink, Addison Hill and Jacob Hohman won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:16.43.
