Eagles in First After Day 1 of WIAC Indoor Championships; Win Two Individual Titles

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Men's Track and Field team completed day one of the 2024 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships (presented by Culver's) which included the Eagles winning two individual championships.

THE BASICS

Team Results: UWL leads the team standings with 112 points while UW-Oshkosh is in second with 51 points. In third place is UW-Eau Claire with 45 points while UW-Whitewater is in fourth (27 points), UW-Stout fifth (20 points), UW-Stevens Point sixth (13 points), UW-Platteville seventh (3points) and UW-River Falls eighth (2 points).

THE RESULTS

FIELD EVENTS

Pole Vault - JT Zell led five Eagles in the top eight in the pole vault as he finished second overall with a mark of 15-11 3/4. Three Eagles tied for fifth including Andrew Tumminaro, Ashton Moody and Logan Larson all clearing 15-0. Caleb Moore finished eighth.
Long Jump - The Eagles had two jumpers earn a spot on the podium in the long jump as Andrew Hermes (23-5 1/2) finished fourth and Triton Schmidt (22-8 1/2) finished seventh.
Shot Put - Ben Youngworth threw a personal best 54-11 1/4 to finish third in the shot put. Ethan Welch also earned a trip to the podium with a personal best mark of 51-0 3/4 to finish eighth.

TRACK EVENTS

Distance Medley Relay - The relay team of Owen Klaus, Cael Schoemann, Parker Huhn and Aidan Manning finished third with a time of 9:50.64.
60-meter hurdles - UWL had three hurdlers qualify for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with Luke Schroeder running the fastest time (7.81). Schroeder's time breaks the WIAC Indoor Championships record which was set by Dan Arnold of UW-Platteville with a time of 7.99. Also qualifying was Lukas Johnson with a time of 8.29 and Chad Thompson Jr. in a time of 8.30.
60-meter dash - Two sprinters qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash with Sam Blaskowski running the fastest time (6.68) in the prelims. Also qualifying was Ryder Smith with a time of 6.88.
400-meter - Winning a WIAC Championship in the 400-meter dash was Chase Doornink with a time of 49.03. Also scoring points for the Eagles was Addison Hill as he finished third in a time of 49.37.
Mile - The Eagles had five of the top eight finishers in the mile run with Joey Sullivan finishing second overall in a time of 4:11.03. Right behind Sullivan was Parker Heintz in third (4:11.50) while Elias Ritzke (4:11.51) was fourth. In sixth place was Aidan Manning with a time 4:12.50 while Jayden Zywicki was seventh (4:12.54).
5000-meter run - UWL had six runners score points including the top four finishers in the 5000 meter run. Winning a WIAC Championship was Aidan Matthai with a time of 14:30.99 while Ethan Gregg was second (14:31.22), Grant Matthai third (14:32.50) and Adam Loenser fourth (14:33.66). Also scoring for the Eagles was Corey Fairchild (14:36.62) in sixth place and Issac Wegner (14:41.17) in seventh.
