La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving teams are set to compete in the 2024 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, February 14-17. The 52nd edition of the women's championship will be held in conjunction with the 61st gathering of the men's teams.
UWL women's squad has won a conference-leading 21 championships in program history. UW-Eau Claire ranks second in conference history with 20 championships, while UW-Stevens Point owns six league titles. Former conference member UW-Madison secured four first-place finishes.
Competition begins on Feb. 14 at 1:45 p.m., with the preliminaries of the men's three-meter diving. The finals will start at 6:30 p.m., and include a pair of relay events. For competition held Feb. 15 and Feb. 16, preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., with the finals commencing at 6:30 p.m. The final day will feature 10 a.m. preliminaries and a 5:45 p.m. start for the finals. Medals will be awarded to the top-eight finishers in each of the individual events and the individuals comprising the top-three relay teams.
In 2023, UWL's women's team placed second with 883 points while UW-Eau Claire won the conference title with 901. UWL had won the last 10 league championships. UW-Stevens Point placed third (554 points) last season with UW-Whitewater fourth (381) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (338). 
The Eagles return five individuals winning an individual event at the WIAC Championships, including Abi Schauske taking the 400 I.M. last season. In 2022, Maddy Albert-Nelson (100 butterfly, 200 butterfly), Jordy Hahlen (100 backstroke), Autumn Seebach (200 backstroke) and Lauren Steien (200 I.M.) all won conference titles.
Albert-Nelson, Hahlen, Steien, Reilly Eiynck, Sydney Guenther, Paige Rundahl and Kylee Sommer have been members of conference winning relays. Albert-Nelson, Hahlen and Steien won the 200 and 400 medley relay in 2022 while Albert-Nelson, Hahlen, Steien and Kyle Sommer took the 200 medley in 2023. Reilly Eiynck, Sydney Guenther, Paige Rundahl and Kylee Sommer won the 400 freestyle in 2022 with Eiynck and Steien were also on the winning 400 freestyle relay in 2023.
On the men's side, UWL has won four conference titles in program history and placed second on six different occasions since 2010.
In 2023, the Pointers captured the 26th WIAC championship in program archives with 907 points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 853. UW-La Crosse finished third (686 points) with UW-Whitewater fourth (432) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (228).
UW-Stevens Point's 26 first-place finishes are the most in conference history. UW-Eau Claire has 25 titles while UWL has four league crowns. Former programs to win titles include: UW-Platteville (4) and UW-Milwaukee (1).
Will Quackenbush won the 100 and 200 freestyle at the WIAC Championships in 2022. Four swimmers return after winning league relays. Quackenbush, Blake Nelson and Jackson Plautz were members of the first-place 200 freestyle relay in 2023 while Quackenbush, Nelson and Connor Cleveland won the 400 freestyle last year.
Steve Mohs is in his fifth season as UWL's head coach in 2023-24. The Eagles' women's squad won its 10th straight WIAC Championship in 2021-22 under Mohs, earning five individual and three relay titles. UWL won the league crown in Mohs' first year as head coach in 2019-20, winning six individual and three relay crowns.
He was named the WIAC Women's Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2019-20 and 2021-22 league championships. The 2020-21 WIAC Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 public health threat. UWL placed second at the 2023 WIAC Championships, winning two individual and two relay titles.
He served as an assistant swimming coach at Illinois State University in 2018-19. Prior to arriving at Illinois State, Mohs was the associate head swimming coach at the University of South Dakota in 2017-18 as the Coyotes set 19 school records. He has eight years of head coaching experience, including four (2012-16) at Saint Catherine University (Minn.) and four (2008-12) at Morningside College (Iowa).
Jack Englehardt is in his first year as UWL's assistant swimming & diving coach in 2023-24. He came to UWL after serving as head men's swimming coach at Madison (Wis.) West High School from 2019-23, leading the team to a third-place finish at the 2021 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Championships. Named the 2020-21 Big Eight Conference Co-Coach of the Year, Englehardt also served as the assistant women's coach at Madison West in 2021-22. He won 15 WIAC titles (four individual; 11 relay) at UW-Stevens Point.
Jeremiah Jackson is in his fifth season as UWL's diving coach in 2023-24. Prior to arriving at UWL, Jackson was the head diving coach at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) from 2005-19. He served as the boys and girls coach at Winona (Minn.) High School for 20 years.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Central Diving Regional is set for March 1-2 in Granville, Ohio. The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March 20-23 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
