Wrestling Defeats UW-Platteville For WIAC Win; Competes At Concordia Wisconsin Invite

Tyler Goebel stays perfect on season with win at 165 pounds
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team picked up a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over UW-Platteville while also having team members compete at the Concordia University Wisconsin Invite Saturday.

  • 157 - Cole Hansen picked up a 1-0 decision over David Cushman at 157 pounds. 
  • 165 - Tyler Goebel, ranked second nationally, defeated Grant Boddicker 5-0. 
  • 174 - Eddie Simes won by Technical Fall 22-5 (3:37) over Blake Delsman. 
  • 184 - Marcus Orlandoni won by forfeit. 
  • 197 - It took Ben Kawczynski just :49 to win by fall over Kain Killmer.

      Individual Results from Concordia University Wisconsin Invite   
  • 125 - Ino Garcia won his first two matches of the invite by fall and finished fourth overall by going 4-2. After losing his first match of the day, Grant Madl won three in a row before losing in the consolation semifinals to finish the day 3-2. 
  • 133 - Teague Holzer started the the day going 3-0 before losing to James Day (Wabash (Ind.)) in the semifinals. He then defeated Ethan Spacht 8-2 in the third place match. 
  • 141 - Marcus McIntyre finished 2-2 at 141 pounds. 
  • 149 - Like Holzer, Joe Penchi won his first three matches including a fall and two major decisions before losing to Chase Fiser (Loras College, Iowa) by sudden victory (8-5). Penchi then defeated Jalin Conner (UW-Whitewater) 11-6 to finish third overall. 
  • 165 - Tate Flege started his day with a Fall (2:17) of Giovanni Diaz (North Central College (Ill.)) and a Fall (2:04) of Scott Graves (Unattached). Flege the defeated Carter Proffitt (Wartburg College (Iowa)) 9-3. A 3-0 defeated over Dustin Bohren (Loras College (Iowa)) in the semifinals set up a championship match with Alex Villar of North Central College (Ill.). Brett Skaug defeated Nicholas Asllani (Elmhurst College (Ill.)) by Fall (2:47) in his first match of the day and then beat Ayden Lutes (Wabash (Ind.)) 8-4 before losing 8-1 to Villar (North Central (Ill.)). In the fifth place match, Skaug picked up a major decision (14-1) over Kale Roth (University of Dubuque). 
  • 174 Leo Draveling went a perfect 5-0 to finish first at 174. On his way to the first place finish, Draveling earned three Falls and two Technical Falls. , Jack Gillis finished the day 4-2 to finish fifth overall. In the fifth place match, Gillis defeated Tyler Joseph 5-0. Sedeeq AlObaidai finished the day 2-2. 
  • 184 - Tyler Dormanen won his first two matches by Fall and then advanced to the semifinals with a major decision of 13-0 over Parr Thoma Schoolman (North Central College (Ill.)). Dormanen then lost 10-1 to Matthew Doyle (Wartburg College (Iowa)) in the third place match. 
  • 197 - Kasey Gish advanced to the semifinals with back-to-back Falls before falling 10-1 to Jackson Punzel of Wheaton College (Ill.). Gish then medically forfeited to Logan Neitzel (UW-Stevens Point) in the fifth place match. Gabe Carter started the day with back-to-back wins (Fall (:26), Technical Fall (15-0)) before losing in the quarterfinals. Carter then defeated Eagle teammate Gish by medical forfeit and won by Fall (1:51) over Evan Danowski (UW-Whitewater) to finish third overall.
