Wisconsin Showcase Match-by-Match Results
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, ranked third in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Preseason, opened its 2024-25 season with a 30-9 victory over Cornell College (Iowa) Friday night in Mitchell Hall.
Tanner Gerber won by technical fall at 157.
The dual was part of the Wisconsin Showcase, featuring schools from National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, II and III. Ohio University earned a 25-14 win over the University of Wisconsin in the Division I dual while fourth-ranked UW-Parkside picked up a 30-6 victory over eighth-ranked Maryville University (Mo.) in the Division II dual.
UWL won the first two matches Friday night.
Quintin Wolbert, ranked 12th at 125-pounds, won by fall (2:42) over Jayson Stevens. The Eagles'
Wyatt Magolski extended the lead to 9-0 with a win by decision (13-8) over Eli Sneed of Cornell (Iowa).
The Rams took the next two matches to cut the lead to 9-6. Jace Kennel won by decision (11-8) over
Talan Schutte at 141-pounds while Landon Card won by decision (9-6) over
Josh Cherba at 149.
UWL's
Tanner Gerber made it 14-6 with a technical fall (17-1) over AJ Parrish at 157-pounds. Second-ranked
Tyler Goebel gave the Eagles a 17-6 advantage with a win by decision (9-7) over the Rams' Brian Petry at 165-pounds.
Eddie Simes extended the lead to 21-6 after a major decision (11-3) over Dahson DeJong at 174-pounds.
In a match-up of top-12 ranked wrestlers at 184-pounds, Cornell's (Iowa) Cael McLaren, ranked eighth, won by decision (4-3) over UWL's 12th-ranked
Marcus Orlandoni to cut the lead to 21-9.
Michael Douglas won by fall at 285-pounds.
The Eagles took the final two matches.
Kasey Gish won by decision (19-13) over 11th-ranked Treyten Steffen at 197-pounds and number-one ranked
Michael Douglas won by fall (2:21) over Jackson Brinker at 285-pounds.
