UWL and UW-Platteville Finish Tied; Second Tie in School History Between Teams

Platteville, Wis - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team finished in a 2-2 tie at UW-Platteville Wednesday night at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The Eagles are now 7-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers are 10-2-2 overall and also 1-0-1 in the conference.
 
UWL entered the game receiving votes on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top-25 Poll and ranked second in Region IX while UW-Platteville entered ranked sixth in the region.
 
With the tie, UWL extends its unbeaten WIAC streak to 16-0-1.

Ellie Arndt scored her third goal of the season.

 
The Eagles are now 10-0-1 in their last 11 games versus the Pioneers. It marks the second tie in school history between the two teams with the last coming in 2006 (0-0 in double overtime).  
 
UWL took a 1-0 lead at 32:00 on Wednesday after Ellie Arndt scored off a Chelsea Gale assist. The Eagles maintained their 1-0 lead at halftime after finishing with seven shots in the first half. The Pioneers recorded three shots in the opening 45:00.
 
UW-Platteville tied the game at 1-1 at 78:23 as Lydia Smith scored after Jess Morawski's assist. UWL quickly regained the lead at 81:24 with Grace Williams giving the Eagles a 2-1 advantage.
 
Just over 2:00 later, the Pioneers tied the game, 2-2, as Morawski scored off an Arianna Lombardi assist.
 
The Eagles recorded the final three shots of the game and finished with 20 overall, including nine on goal. Arndt finished with six shots with three on goal while Gale, Alexis McMahon and Ellie Behnke each had three shots.
 
UWL had 12 corner kicks with seven coming in the second half.
 
Erelyn Apel finished with three saves.
 
UW-Platteville registered six shots with five on goal. Lombardi finished with three shots, including two on goal. The Pioneers were held to one corner kick. Madison Way recorded seven saves.
 
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 12 at UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m.
