Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) unbeaten streak to 18 with a 5-0 victory at UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the WIAC while the Warhawks drop to 5-6-4 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.
UWL, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Poll, is 17-0-1 in its last 18 league games. The Eagles are ranked second in Region IX.
The game was scoreless until UWL's
Ellie Arndt scored at 42:35 off a
Katelyn Studebaker assist. The Eagles led, 1-0 at halftime, outshooting the Warhawks, 8-1. UWL had four corner kicks in the first half while UW-Whitewater totaled two.
Kate Heiderscheit's goal gave UWL a 3-0 lead.
UWL quickly took a 2-0 lead at 45:45 on
Chelsea Gale's assist. The Eagles added to their lead with
Kate Heiderscheit scoring at 68:35 on assists from Arndt and Studebaker.
Lucy Quidzinski gave UWL a 4-0 lead at 75:09, assisted by Studebaker and
Amaya Thesing. UWL finished the scoring at 82:16 on
Emily Pikarski's goal.
UWL finished with 16 shots in the game, including eight on goal. Arndt had a team-high five shots. Five different players scored while Studebaker recorded three assists. It marks the 10th game in school history with a player registering at least three assists in a game. Studebaker is the first player to have three assists since
Natalie Schisel versus Carthage College (Wis.) on September 18, 2021.
Jennifer Tischaefer holds the single-game school record with six assists against Viterbo University (Wis.) on October 2, 1996.
The Eagles had 11 corner kicks.
Erelyn Apel earned the win in goal, recording one save in 80:23. Summer Nicolia played the final 4:17. UWL also had two team saves.
UW-Whitewater was held to five shots with three on goal. Greta Harms took the loss, registering one save. The Warhawks had three corner kicks.
The game was called with just over 5:00 remaining due to weather.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, October 15 at Lawrence University (Wis.) at 5 p.m.
