UWL Records Third Straight Shutout; Sets Season-High in Shots; Studebaker Scores Twice

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned its third straight shutout win with a 5-0 victory over UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Poll, improve to 10-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). UW-River Falls drops to 7-6-2 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

UWL earned a 5-0 win over UW-Whitewater on October 12 and a 5-0 victory over Lawrence University (Wis.) on October 15. The Eagles now have seven shutouts this season.  

With Saturday's victory, UWL extends its WIAC unbeaten streak to 19 (18-0-1). 

The Eagles tallied a pair of first half goals Saturday. Chelsea Gale scored at 13:37 for the game's first goal and Lucy Quidzinski made it 2-0 at 38:44 on Sophie Pope's assist. UWL recorded all 21 shots of the game in the first half while also registering three corner kicks.

Katelyn Studebaker extended UWL's lead to 3-0 at 60:43 off Megan McNeely's assist. The Eagles scored a pair of goals in 1:05 with Hayley Slaski scoring at 73:37 on Lizzy Hanstedt's corner kick while Studebaker finished the scoring with an unassisted goal at 74:42. 

UWL finished with 45 shots overall with 20 on goal. Ellie Arndt (three on goal) and Aubree Caya (one) each had seven shots while Studebaker finished with five shots (three on goal). Gale (one on goal), Lindsey Szymanski (two) and Grace Williams (four) each recorded four shots. Erelyn Apel earned the victory, playing the first half. Summer Nicolia (35:30) and Robin Blair (9:30) played the second half.

UWL had five corner kicks. 

UW-River Falls was held to two shots, neither coming on goal. The Falcons did not have a corner kick. Grace Zellmer recorded 13 saves. UW-River Falls also had two team saves. 

UWL returns to action Sunday, October 20 hosting Carleton College (Minn.) at 4 p.m.
