UWL Earns Sixth Shutout of Season with Win at Lawrence; Heiderscheit Scores Twice

Appleton, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 5-0 victory at Lawrence University (Wis.) Tuesday night at The Banta Bowl. The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Top-25 Poll, improve to 9-3-1 on the season. UWL is ranked third in Region IX. Lawrence (Wis.) drops to 8-4-2 on the season with Tuesday's loss.

UWL now leads the all-time series, 4-0, with Lawrence (Wis.).

and helped UWL to its sixth shutout of the season.

It is the Eagles' sixth shutout of the season, including third in the last four games.

UWL got three first half goals Tuesday in the first meeting between the teams since 2013. Jillian Sawadski scored the game's first goal at 6:45 assisted by Sophie Pope. The Eagles made it 2-0 at 18:29 on a Jessica Stewart goal off Ellie Behnke's assists. Kate Heiderscheit extended the lead to 3-0 at 41:18 on a Kaitlyn Kurtz assist.

The Eagles outshot the Vikings, 18-1, in the first half. UWL also had six corner kicks.

Katelyn Studebaker's goal at 77:14, assisted by Grace Williams, gave UWL a 4-0 advantage. Heiderscheit finished the scoring with her second goal of the game, this one coming at 88:47, from Claire Rankin's assist.

UWL finished with 34 shots, including a season-high 19 on goal. Sawadski and Studebaker each had four shots with three on goal. Heiderscheit (two on goal), Alexis McMahon (two) and Ellie Arndt (one) each finished with three shots. Seventeen players recorded a shot.

The Eagles had all eight corner kicks in the game.

Lawrence (Wis.) was held to two shots with one on goal.

Erelyn Apel earned the win in goal, finishing with one save in 77:14. Summer Nicolai played the final 12:46 in goal.

Ella Lysne suffered the loss for the Vikings, recording 14 saves in 77:14. Rebecca Wolfe played the final 12:46 in goal for Lawrence (Wis.).

UWL returns to action Saturday, October 19 hosting UW-River Falls in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match-up at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
