La Crosse, Wis./Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team opened its regular with a third-place finish in a quadrangular Saturday.
The Eagles finished with 503 team points while Minnesota State University, Mankato won the team title with 817.5. St. Cloud State University (Minn.) was second with 705.5 points and Truman State University (Mo.) fourth with 405.
The diving competition was held in UWL's Mitchell Hall while the swimming events were competed at the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium in Rochester, Minnesota.
UWL's
Joanne Banaszak won the three-meter diving title (247.20 points) and placed fourth in the one-meter (241.35).
Hannah Martini finished fourth in the three-meter (225.40) and fifth in the one-meter (231.75). The Eagles'
Abbey Thornton placed eighth (183.65) in the three-meter and Maddie DeBernardo sixth (202.50) in the one-meter.
In the swimming events, UWL's
Zoey Rank was fourth (2:15.41) in the 200 I.M. and seventh (1:00.85) in the 100 backstroke while
Ava Pulvermacher was fifth (2:00.05) in the 200 freestyle and tied for fifth (5:24.35) in the 500 freestyle.
Libby Cleveland tied for fifth (25.01) in the 50 freestyle.
Jordy Hahlen and
Natalie Austin each recorded a pair of top-eight individual finishes on Saturday. Hahlen was sixth (2:14.46) in the 200 backstroke and eighth (1:00.91) in the 100 backstroke. Austin finished sixth (1:10.57) in the 100 breaststroke and seventh (1:01.24) in the 100 butterfly.
Other top-eight finishers included
Kayla Knaffla sixth (1:00.76) in the 100 backstroke while
Abi Schauske was seventh (2:23.37) and
Shefali Ramakrishman eighth (2:25.21) in the 200 butterfly.
The Eagles' 200 freestyle relay of Ramakrishman, Cleveland, Rank and Knaffla was fourth (1:41.11).
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 19 at the All-Wisconsin Showcase in Brown Deer.
