Waverly, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 13th in the United Soccer Coaches, rallied with four goals in the second half to earn a 4-2 victory over Dominican University (Ill.) Sunday afternoon at Wartburg College's (Iowa) Salzwedel Field. The Eagles improve to 5-0 while the Stars drop to 1-3-1.
Grace Larson gave Dominican (Ill.) a 2-0 lead at halftime with a pair of goals in the opening half. She scored at 20:57 and 34:03. UWL out shot Dominican (Ill.), 14-5, in the first half, but the Stars' Gabby Thawley recorded five saves.
UWL tallied four goals in the second half to secure its fifth straight win.
Ainsley Allan scored at 49:00 with an assist from
Sophie Pope to cut the Dominican (Ill.) lead to 2-1. Allan tied the game at 53:56 off
Ellie Arndt's assist.
The Eagles took a 3-2 lead on Sera Sepltz' goal at 77:12 on a
Chelsea Gale assist. Allan notched her third goal of the game at 83:13 to give UWL a 4-2 advantage.
Claire Cater recorded the assist.
UWL finished with 31 shots, including 15 on goal. Allan recorded seven shots with three on goal.Speltz had three shots with two on goal while
Maggie Hernandez finished with three shots, all coming on goal.
Sydney Halstead also had three shots. Allan is the 18th player in school history to record at least three goals in a game.
Dominican (Ill.) totaled six shots with three on goal. Larson finished with four shots, three on goal, while Sarah Matuszek had the Stars' other two shots.
Robin Blair earned the win in goal for UWL, finishing with one save. Faith Richards took the loss for Dominican (Ill.), playing the second half while recording six saves.
UWL had 16 corner kicks in the game while Dominican (Ill.) finished with four.
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 16 at Wheaton College (Ill.) at 5 p.m.
