UWL Wins NCAA III Title; Earns Fourteen All-America Honors on Final Day

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team captured its fourth National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Championships Saturday at Polisseni Track and Field Complex. It is the Eagles first national title since 2015. UWL also won the crown in 1983 and 1984. 

UWL secured this year's national title with 67.5 team points with Loras College (Iowa) finishing second with 58.0. The Duhawks had captured the last two national championships. Washington University-St. Louis (Mo) placed third Saturday with 51.0 points and Massachusetts Institute of Technology was fourth 37.0. The championships are being hosted by St. John Fisher University (N.Y.) and Visit Rochester.

It is the Eagles' first outdoor national title under head coach Nickolas Davis. He led UWL to the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in March, its second national title in school history. UWL also won the 2015 indoor national crown. 

Lauren Jarrett and Emma Lawrence each earned a pair of individual NCAA III All-America honors on Saturday. Jarrett placed second in the 100 (11.61) and 200 (24.16) meter dash. Lawrence picked up a pair of All-America awards in the hurdles, placing third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.21) and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (14.08).

Jarrett and Lawrence also earned NCAA III All-America accolades in the relays on Saturday. Bella Seitz, Jarrett, Lawrence and Emily Dawidowich placed third (45.98) in the 4x100-meter relay while Amber Johnson, Dawidowich, Morgan Jennings and Lawrence finished fourth (3:45.00) in the 4x400-meter relay. 

It is Jarrett's first three NCAA III All-America awards in her career.

Lawrence ends her career with 11 NCAA III Outdoor All-America honors. Along with the four this year, Lawrence earned four in 2022 and three in 2021. She placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 2021 and 2021 and finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 2021 and sixth in 2022. Lawrence was a member of the Eagles' fifth-place 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays a year ago and the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay in 2021. 

With her two All-America honors in this year's relays, Dawidowich now has five in her career. She was on the third-place 4x100-meter relay in 2021 and fifth-place 4x100-meter relay in 2022. Dawidowich also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in 2021 to earn honors. 

It is Johnson's third career outdoor All-America honor in the 4x400-meter relay after being on the fourth-place relay in 2021 and fifth-place relay in 2022.

Seitz and Jennings earned their first career All-America awards.

Maddie Hannan placed second (2:09.87) in the 800-meter run final to earn All-America honors. It is her first career NCAA III Outdoor All-America award. Hannan also finished 19th (17:28.40) in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday. 

Skye Digman earned her third career All-America honor at this year's championships with a seventh-place finish (181-1) in the hammer throw Saturday. She won the NCAA title in the shot put on Friday and placed third in the discus throw on Thursday. Digman ends her career with nine outdoor All-America awards.

UWL's Leah Surprenant placed 15th (170-5) and Holly Wardynski 22nd (113-5) in the hammer throw on Saturday.

The Eagles' Miah Keller earned her second career outdoor award in the triple jump after finishing seventh (39-9 3/4). She picked up her first award a year ago with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump. Samantha Barrett tied for 14th (38-9) in Saturday's triple jump. 
 
Emma Malooly picked up her third career award in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she placed sixth (10:34.69) overall. She was third in 2021 and eighth in 2022. UWL's Maddy Vantassel finished 12th (11:03.13) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday.
