UWL Hosts Final Qualifier; Sets Three School Records; Ties Another

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team hosted the UWL Final Qualifier Thursday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. No team scores were recorded. 

UWL set three school records while tying one more in Thursday's meet. 

On the track, Emma Lawrence set a school record in winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.62. She broke the record of 59.95 set by Marissa Mahr in 2015. Maddie Hannan set a UWL record in capturing the 800-meter run on Thursday with a time of 2:08.58, breaking her own record of 2:09.69 set earlier this season at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational. 

Emily Dawidowich tied the school record in the 200-meter dash (24.07), placing second in the event. She tied Meg Heafy's record set in 2015. 

In the field events, the Eagles' Skye Digman broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 195-0 in winning the event. She threw 194-6 earlier this year at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships. 

Along with Lawrence and Hannan winning events on the track Thursday, Emma Malooly took the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:45.73). UWL's 4x400-meter relay of Lilly Halvorson, Amber Johnson, Morgan Jennings and Dawidowich also placed first (3:46.30).

Other top-six finishers included Melanie Kunze second (1:01.81) and Brooke McDowell third (1:02.08) in the 400-meter hurdles while Greta Koehler placed second (2:09.86) in the 800-meter run. Lauren Jarrett was third (24.09) in the 200-meter dash. In the 1,500-meter run, Kimberly Carviou was second (4:34.12) and Julia Anderson third (4:35.50).

Digman also won the discus throw (145-8) and finished second in the shot put (46-11 3/4). Macie Todd captured the high jump (5-4 1/2) and Samantha Barrett the triple jump (40-0 3/4).

Top-six finishers in the field events included Araceli De Leo Lopez second (11-11 1/4), Abby Meidl third (11-5 1/4) and Ashley O'Connell tied for fifth (11-5 1/4) in the pole vault. Skylar White was second (135-1), Gabby Johnson third (134-5) and Ella Puls fifth (127-8) in the javelin throw while Sarah Hulstead placed third (43-5 1/4) and Izzy Carroll fourth (43-3 3/4) in the shot put. Leah Surprenant finished fifth (174-10) and Puls sixth (171-11) in the hammer throw. Carroll was also sixth (133-5) in the discus throw. 

In the long jump, Maya Evans was second (18-6 1/2) and Dyllan Powers sixth (17-8 1/4) while Miah Keller placed third (39-10 3/4) in the triple jump. Allison Anderson tied for fourth (5-0 1/2) in the high jump.

UWL returns to action Thursday, May 25 at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships in Rochester, New York.
