La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track and field team captured the Ashton May Invitational Friday night at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles finished with 331.0 team points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 113.5 and Winona State University (Minn.) third with 87.5. A total of six teams competed.
UWL won 12 titles on Friday, including six in the field events and six on the track. The Eagles'
Skye Digman captured the shot put (46-7 1/2) and hammer throw (187-8) while finishing second in the discus throw (143-9). She broke her own school record of 184-10 in the hammer throw set in 2021. Other field events winners included
Gabby Johnson in the javelin throw (128-11),
Ashley O'Connell in the pole vault (12-4),
Ainsley Hansen in the high jump (5-6 1/2) and
Miah Keller in the triple jump (38-2 3/4).
On the track,
Maddie Hannan won a pair of titles, taking the 800 (2:14.89) and 1,500 (4:34.35) meter runs.
Lauren Jarrett won the 100-meter dash (11.76),
Emily Dawidowich the 200-meter dash (24.98) and
Maddy Vantassel the 3,00-meter steeplechase (10:53.91). UWL also won the 4x400-meter relay (3:54.32) with
Brooke McDowell,
Melanie Kunze,
Izi Knoernschild and
Amber Johnson.
Other top-six finishers in the field events included
Araceli De Leo Lopez second (11-10),
Nina Morrison third (11-4 1/4) and
Abby Meidl tied for fourth (10-10 1/4) in the pole vault.
Macie Todd was second (5-4 1/2),
Olivia Owens third (5-2 1/2) and
Olivia Gartner tied for sixth (5-0 1/2) in the high jump while
Hailie Kent was third (36-8 1/2) and
Kylah Frederixon fifth (36-6 1/4) in the triple jump.
Amber Grosse placed fourth (17-6 1/4) and
Maya Evans sixth (17-4 1/4).
In the hammer throw,
Leah Surprenant was second (17-11) and
Holly Wardynski sixth (153-11).
Izzy Carroll placed third (42-5 1/2),
Alayna Digman fourth (40-2 1/4) and Sarah Hulstead fifth (39-10 1/2) in the shot put while
Ella Puls finished fourth (109-0) and
Noelle Hackenmueller sixth (90-3) in the javelin throw.

Jarrett was also second (25.29) in the 200-meter dash with Kunz third (25.96) and
Lilly Halvorson fifth (26.21) while Dawidowich was second (12.11) and
Bella Seitz sixth (12.55) in the 100-meter dash. UWL's
Morgan Jennings finished second (58.43) in the 400-meter dash while
Mara Schroeder was fourth fourth (59.11) and
Ellie Jillson fifth (1:00.19). Johnson was fifth (2:19.52) in the 800-meter run. McDowell was second (14.56) in the 110-meter hurdles.
Emma Malooly finished second (11:00.91) and
Katelyn Chadwick third (11:19.14) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Madelyn McIntyre placed third (18:10.43),
Andrea Butz fourth (19:11.21) and
Ella Pahl fifth (19:32.77) in the 5,000-meter run.
The meet is named for former assistant women's track & field coach Ashton May, who passed away September 16, 2012 after a traffic accident north of Adams, Minnesota. She completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Eagles in 2011-12. May earned her degree from UWL in 2010 in elementary education and was a math and social studies teacher at Holmen (Wis.) Middle School. May will be inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame this fall.
A four-year track & field letter winner for the Eagles, she earned 10 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America awards, including second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the 2010 outdoor championships. May was also second in the long jump at the 2010 indoor national championships. She was inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame in 2022.
