Lacrosse Ties Record for Goals in Win Over Augsburg; Feeney Breaks Single Game Record for Goals

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team extended its winning streak to five as it defeated Augsburg University (Minn.), 25-6, Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 6-2 while the Auggies fall to 2-6 on the year.

The 25 goals for the Eagles ties a single-game record which was set against Augsburg (Minn.) on April 15, 2022. Megan Feeney broke the school record for goals in a game with eight. Feeney breaks Grace Willmott's record of seven set earlier this season against Kalamazoo College (Mich.) on March 16. 

UWL used a fast start as it scored eight goals in the first quarter. Abigail Steigauf scored the first goal for the Eagles in the 13th minute on a free position shot. Ava Schiltz gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal a minute later. A free position goal from Lauren Schwartz with 10:32 left in the first period made it 3-0. Jade Wilson would score in the ninth minute for Augsburg (Minn.) to cut the deficit to 3-1.

UWL would score the next three goals to lead 6-1 with 3:33 remaining. Feeney scored on an assist from Megan Maloney while Olivia Wight scored also on an assist by Maloney. Olivia Gscheidmeier scored the sixth goal on an assist by Steigauf. Augsburg (Minn.) scored back-to-back goals to pull within 6-3. Scoring for the Auggies was Wilson and Alexa Hoffman. The Eagles would score the final two goals of the first quarter by Schwartz and Feeney. UWL led, 8-3, at the end of the first quarter. 

Wilson would take the opening draw control down to score for the Auggies just :11 into the second quarter. The Eagles scored seven of the next eight goals to lead 15-5 at halftime. Feeney scored four goals while MacKenzie Crouse scored twice and Gscheidmeier once. Crouse also recorded two assists while Feeney, Schwartz, Gscheidmeier and Bailey each had one assist. 

UWL would extend their lead to 19-6 in the third quarter by scoring four of the five goals. Schiltz scored two goals while Steigauf and Schwartz each had one. Schwartz also recorded an assist on Steigauf's goal. Alexa Hoffman scored for Augsburg (Minn.). The Eagles added six goals in the fourth quarter. Feeney scored two of her eight goals in the quarter while Schwartz, Gscheidmeier, Wight and Willmott each had one goal. Gscheidmeier, Kiersten Pelletier, Willmott and Jadyn Constine recorded assists.

UWL out shot Augsburg (Minn.), 50-14, with Feeney leading the way with 11 shots while Schwartz added nine. Eight different Eagles scored with seven players scoring multiple goals. Schwartz scored four times while Schiltz and Gscheidmeier added three each and Steigauf, Wight and Crouse finished with two. As a team, the Eagles finished with 15 assists, including three from Crouse and two from Gscheidmeier, Schwartz and Maloney. Emily Hageman earned the win in goal for the Eagles as she made three saves.

Wilson led Augsburg (Minn.) with four goals on six shots while Alexa Hoffman finished with two goals on four shots. Nicole Schuster suffered the loss in goal for the Auggies, finishing with 13 saves. 

UWL returns to actaion Saturday, April 1 hosting Carthage College (Wis.) at 3:15 p.m.
