Winona, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse placed second at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships Saturday night in McCown Gymnasium at Winona State University (Minn.). The Eagles finished with a team score of 192.325 while UW-Oshkosh captured the national title with a score of 192.525.
UW-Stout was third (190.275) followed by Springfield College (Mass.) fourth (190.100), Brockport State (N.Y.) fifth (189.225) and Ithaca College (N.Y.) sixth (187.925).
Rachel Chesley
UWL recorded 48.275 on the vault, 48.125 on the uneven parallel bars, 47.400 on the balance beam and 48.525 on the floor exercise. The Eagles set season-highs on the vault and uneven parallel bars.
The Eagles have recorded 26 top-two finishes in 37 national championship meets. The NCGA has conducted championships since 1984, making this year the 39th annual meet. UWL has won the team title 17 times (1986, 1988, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016). The 17 team titles are the most in NCGA history.
The Eagles'
Rachel Chesley captured the national title on the uneven parallel bars (9.800) on Saturday while finishing tied for second on the vault (9.775) and tied for sixth on the floor exercise (9.775).
Chesley is the 20th gymnast to win an individual national title and the 10th different student-athlete (12 total titles) to win the uneven parallel bars. She joins

Susie Milts (1988),
Michelle Saxton (2003),
Nina Schubert (2004-06),
Amy Enright (2015),
Samantha Wiekamp (2015) and
Dani Barmore (2016) and

UWL has now won 36 individual national championships.
Madi Vanderpool won a pair of NCGA All-America honors on Saturday, tying for fourth on the uneven parallel bars (9.700) and tying for sixth on the balance beam (9.750).
Kyla Dickson, Legault and
Lily Millington each earned All-America accolades. Dickson tied for third on the balance beam (9.775) while Legault tied for seventh on the uneven parallel bars (9.625) and Millington tied for eighth on the vault (9.700).
With this year's eight NCGA All-America honors, UWL has earned 252 All-America awards in the history of the national championships.
The top-eight individuals in the all-around and vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise earn NCGA All-America honors.
Kasey Crawford named NCGA Coach of the Year.
UWL's
Kasey Crawford was named the NCGA Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the championships. She completed her seventh season as the Eagles' head coach in 2022-23. She led the Eagles to a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship in 2018 and second-place finishes at the NCGA Championships in 2017 and 2018. UWL qualified for the 2020 NCGA Championships, but the meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 public health threat.
She is the second coach to win NCGA Coach of the Year honors, joining Barb Gibson who earned the award six times (1989, 2001, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2015).
An assistant coach at UWL for eight seasons, Crawford earned the 2015-16 NCGA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year award after helping lead UWL to its second straight national title. She was named the 2011-12 and 2012-13 NCGA North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Crawford was a four-year letter winner and two-year team captain at UWL, competing from 2004-08.
