Gymnastics Set for NCGA National Championships at SUNY Cortland; Looking To Win Second Straight NCGA Title

 The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is set to compete in the 2026 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships Friday, March 20 in Whitney T. Corey '43 Gymnasium on the campus of SUNY Cortland (NY). Competition is set for 1 p.m. (CST).
 
Joining the Eagles at the Championships will be SUNY Brockport (N.Y.), SUNY Cortland (N.Y.), UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh, and UW-Whitewater. The top two teams from each regional (East and West) automatically qualified along with the the top two Road to Nationals scores receiving at-large bids. SUNY Brockport won the East Regional with SUNY Cortland finishing runner-up while UW-Oshkosh won the West Regional with UW-Whitewater finishing second. Both UWL and UW-Eau Claire earned at-large bids. The top-eight individuals in the all-around and vault, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise earn NCGA All-America honors.

EAGLE HISTORY AT THE NCGA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • UWL has won an NCGA record 18 team championships in the 40 years. In fact, UWL has 27 top-two finishes in 40 national championship meets including winning the 2025 National Title.
  • The Eagles are looking to repeat after winning last year's national championship with a team score of 194.925 while UW-Whitewater finished second with a score of 194.025. UW-Oshkosh was second with an overall score of 193.075.
  • At the 2025 Championships, Grace Kehr won the vault title and Jess Taylor won the floor exercise championship. Teammates Raina Christenson, Claire Robbins and Kyla Dickson shared the title on the balance beam. 
  • Individually, UWL boasts 41 former national champions (25 gymnasts). In addition, UWL student-athletes have earned 259 All-America honors throughout the history of the NCGA Championships.
  • Head Coach Kasey Crawford is in her tenth season at UWL. Last year's national title was Crawford first as a head coach and completing the trifecta as she has now won a NCGA National Championship as a student-athlete, assistant coach and head coach all at UWL. She led the Eagles to a WIAC Championship in 2018 and second-place finishes at the NCGA Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2023. The Eagles finished third at the 2022 and 2024 NCGA Championships. Coach Crawford was named the NCGA Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the 2023 championships. Crawford was a four-year letter winner and two-year team captain at UWL, competing from 2004-08.
  • Individually the Eagles return six gymnasts who earned NCGA All-America accolades at the 2025 Championships. Along with winning the national title on the vault, Kehr earned All-America honors on the floor exercise with a second place finish. Sarah Best returns as a NCGA All-American on the uneven parallel bars as she tied for third while Robbins and Christenson earned NCGA All-America honor on the balance beam by tying for the title. Paige Breckwoldt returns as an All-American on the vault after finishing tied for third while Grace Edwards finished sixth on the floor exercise.

  • As a team this season, the Eagles are averaging 192.198 points with season high of 193.150 coming at the Simpson College dual on January 24.
  • So far this season on each event, the Eagles are averaging 48.163 on the vault, 47.594 on the uneven parallel bars, 48.503 on the balance beam and 47.934 on the floor exercise.The Eagles won five dual meets this season while winning the UW-La CrosseTriangular, finishing second at the University of Northern Illinois University and third at the University of Nebraska Quadrangular.

  • Breckwoldt has led the Eagles so far this season on the vault with a season high of 9.775 while averaging a team season best 9.672.
  • Also averaging above a 9.600 this season is Cobi Powell (9.641) and Ava Kaspryzcki (9.607).
    Uneven Parallel Bars
  • Robbins is leading the Eagles this season with a season average 9.650. Her season best so far is a 9.775.
  • Also averaging above a 9.600 this season is Madalyn McCormick who is averaging a 9.619. Her season high of 9.800 came at the UWL Triangular on February 27.
    Balance Beam
  • Robbins and McCormick also lead the Eagles on the balance beam as they are averaging a 9.679 and 9.663, respectively. McCormick has the top individual score on the beam for the Eagles with a 9.850.
  • Also averaging above a 9.53 or higher is Lauren Main (9.592), Lucy Warren (9.587), Darby Savage (9.583) and Lainey Vogt (9.534). 
    Floor Exercise
  • Breckwoldt has been the top performer this season on the floor exercise as she is averaging a team best 9.637. 
  • Joining Breckwoldt by averaging higher than a 9.600 is Kehr (9.610), Adeline Snyder (9.608) and Robbins (9.607).
