La Crosse, Wis. - Two members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team earned 2022-23 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Regular Season All-America Awards, the organization announced Thursday.
Senior
Kerrie Legault of Greenwood, Ind. (Center Grove) and sophomore
Rachel Chesley of Dellwood, Minn. (Mahtomedi) earned WCGA All-America honors on the uneven parallel bars. Legault was named to the All-America First Team with a seasonal average of 9.7625 while Chesley earned second team accolades with an average of 9.7063.
The award is sponsored by GK Elite Sportswear. Awards are determined by seasonal average score (top-four scores throughout the regular season). The top-two on each event earn WCGA All-America honors.
This is the third WCGA All-America honor for Legault and first for Chesley. Legault was named to the 2019-20 and 2021-22 WCGA All-America Team on the uneven parallel bars.
Chesley has won four uneven parallel bars titles during the 2022-23 season, including sharing the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship with a score of 9.600. She won the uneven parallel bars in the UWL Triangular (9.550) and in duals against UW-Oshkosh (9.700) and UW-Stout (9.700). Chesley recorded a career-high 9.725 on the uneven parallel bars at the Winona State University (Minn.) Triangular, placing second in the event. She also finished second in duals versus UW-Eau Claire (9.575), UW-Whitewater (9.675) and Gustavus Adolphus College, Minn. (9.625).
Legault also won four uneven parallel bars crowns in 2022-23, including the Winona State (Minn.) Triangular with a career-high 9.825. She also won the event title versus UW-Eau Claire (9.750), UW-Whitewater (9.725) and Gustavus Adolphus, Minn. (9.750). Legault tied for second (9.625) against UW-Oshkosh and was fourth in the UWL Triangular (9.450) and dual versus UW-Stout (9.650). She was fifth (9.550) at the WIAC Championships.
UWL finished second at the 2023 WIAC Championships/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) West Regional to qualify for the NCGA Championships on March 25 at Winona State (Minn.).
