Box Score Davenport, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a 7-0 win over The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) Thursday at NorthEast Regional Park. The Eagles improve to 2-2 on the season while the Saints drop to 1-10.
UWL's
Tyler Schmitt and
Owen Deprez combined on the shutout, scattering six hits. Schmitt earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings, aliwng three hits and two walks with six strikeouts while Deprez picked up the save, going 3.0 innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out three.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Thursday as
Jack Olver and
Mac Born singled with one out.
George Seaman followed with a two-run double to make it 2-0. Seaman later scored after
Anthony Vivian reached on a Saints' error.
St. Scholastica (Minn.) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, but Schmitt recorded a pair of strikeouts and got the final out on a fielder's choice.
The game remained 3-0 until UWL tallied four times in the eighth. Seaman opened the inning with a home run to extend the lead to 4-0.
Andrew Rajkovich walked with one out and advanced to second on
Ty Hamilton's single. After a caught stealing, Hamilton scored on a
Eli Roberts' single. Roberts stole second and scored on
Jack Moran's single to make ti 6-0. Born later drew a bases-loaded walk to finish the scoring.
UWL finished with 13 hits as Seamn, Roberts and Moran each had two. Seaman scored twice with three RBI.
Alex Haapajoki and Ryan Garlick each had two hits for St. Scholastica (Minn.). Wes Kemming took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts.
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 18 facing William Paterson University (N.J.) at 8:45 a.m. in Davenport.
