Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team defeated Kalamazoo College (Mich.) 19-10 Thursday afternoon at Mackenzie Field. The Eagles are now 2-2 overall while the Hornets fall to 2-3 on the season.
Grace Willmott scores seven goals.
UWL got off to a slow start as Kalamazoo scored the first four goals to lead 4-0 with 7:55 left in the first quarter. The Eagles would got their deficit in half with back-to-back goals from
Lauren Schwartz and
Grace Willmott. Kalamazoo would score the final three goals of the first quarter to lead 7-2.
Ava Schiltz would get the first goal of the second period for the Eagles in the 12th minute as UWL trailed 7-3. The Hornets then got free position goals from Lily Grelak and Abbie Caza to take a 9-3 lead with 9:16 remaining. Willmott would pull the Eagles within 9-4 while Schwartz scored a free position goal to make in 9-5 with with 3:22 remaining in the first half.
Britta Nelson then scored on an assist by Schwartz to make it 9-6 with 3:04 left. Hannah Heeren would scored the final goal of the first half to give the Hornets a 10-6 lead at the half.
UWL would outscored Kalamazoo 5-0 in the third period to lead 11-10. Nelson would score three of the five goals for the Eagles while WIllmott and
Abigail Steigauf scored the other two. Schwartz also recorded two assists in the third period for the Eagles.
UWL then scored eight goals in the fourth quarter while giving up none. Willmott scored four of the eight goals in the last period for the Eagles. Also scoring for the Eagles was Nelson, Schwartz,
Olivia Gscheidmeier and
Jadyn Constine. Gscheidmeier assisted Nelson on her goal while
Kiersten Pelletier assisted Gscheidmeier and Willmott on their goals.
Olivia Wight assisted Constine on the final goal of the game.
UWL outshot Kalamazoo 40-32 including 24-10 in the second half. Willmott led the Eagles with a single game school record seven goals on seven shots. Nelson finished with five goals on nine shots including the game winning goal. Schwartz added three goals and three assists for the Eagles.
Abi Furlano earned the win in goal for the Eagles as she shut out Kalamazoo in the second half by recording seven saves.
Emily Hageman played the first 30:00 in goal for the Eagles allowing ten goals while recording four saves.
Heeren led the Hornets with four goals while Caza added three goals. Jordan Flink suffered the loss in goal for the Hornets as she finished with 11 saves.
UWL will return to action on Wednesday, March 22 when they host the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
