Box Score Davenport, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team fell, 5-2, to Coe College (Iowa) Wednesday afternoon at NorthEast Regional Park. The Eagles drop to 1-2 on the season while the Kohawks improve to 5-4.
Coe (Iowa) scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Mitchell Eckardt doubled to start the game and went to third on a Jake Brosius single. After Brosius stole second, Eckardt scored on a UWL error to make it 1-0. The Eagles turned a double play, but Tyce Johnson had an RBI double for Coe (Iowa) and Tyler Bayless an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.
UWL cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth.
Andrew Rajkovich doubled to start the inning and score on an
Anthony Vivian single.
The Kohawks added solo tallies in the seventh and eighth innings to make it 5-1. Reid Rausch had an RBI triple in the seventh inning while Eckardt drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth.
Vivian recorded his second RBI single in the top of the ninth for the Eagles, scoring
Mac Born.
UWL finished with six hits as Vivian went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Four other players recorded a hit.
Owen Anderson suffered the loss for the Eagles, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits, four runs (one earned) and one walk while striking out five.
Coe (Iowa) totaled 12 hits on Wednesday as Bayless went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI. Eckardt and Gavin Gus both had two hits. Matthew Chapman earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four hits and one run with eight strikeouts. Austin Divello picked up the save on Wednesday, pitching 0.1 of an inning.
UWL returns to action Thursday, March 16 against The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at 12:30 p.m. The Eagles and Saints will play a junior varsity game after the completion of the varsity contest.
