Box Score Auburndale, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a 4-3 win in 12 innings over the University of Southern Maine Tuesday at Lake Myrtle Complex. The Eagles improve to 1-1 on the season while the Huskies drop to 1-4.
Southern Maine took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a Anthony Poole RBI single and Jason Komulaine sacrifice fly.
UWL cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third.
Jordan Williams and
Jack Moran walked to lead-off the inning. After a fielder's choice moved Williams to third,
Jack Olver's fielders choice knocked in the Eagles' first run of the game.
The Eagles tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
Chris VandenHeuvel walked to start the inning and advanced to third on Olver's single.
Mac Born grounded into a double play to score VandenHeuvel.
Moran gave UWL a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth, scoring
Tim Urlaub.
The Huskies tied the game in the top of the ninth as Poole came in on Janek Lukzsa's sacrifice fly.
UWL earned its first win of the season in the bottom of the 12th. Urlaub doubled with one out and went to third on a
Grant Beth single. Moran followed with a run-scoring single to knock in Urlaub with the winning run.
Alex Mach (1-0) earned the win for UWL, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and one run with two strikeouts.
Isaiah Katz started for the Eagles, going 8.0 innings, allowing nine hits, three runs and one walk while striking out six.
The Eagles finished with 12 hits in Tuesday's game. VandenHeuvel, Urlaub, Moran,
Andrew Rajkovich and
Anthony Vivian each had two hits. Urlaub scored twice while Moran had two RBI.
Lucas Francis (0-1) suffered the loss for Southern Maine, going 2.1 innings in relief, allowing three hits and one run with two strikeouts. The Huskies had 11 hits in the game. Kyle Douin went 3-for-5 with one run while Poole finished 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, March 15 versus Coe College (Iowa) at 11 a.m.
