Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team placed second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Saturday night at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Eagles finished with 883.0 team points while UW-Eau Claire took the conference title with 901.0. UW-Stevens Point placed third (554.0), UW-Whitewater fourth (381.0) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (338.0). UWL had captured the last 10 WIAC Championships.
UWL captured the league crown in the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday with
Kylee Sommer,
Reilly Eiynck,
Paige Rundahl and
Lauren Steien (3:32.20). It is the Eagles second straight title in the event. Eiynck was also a member of the 2022 championship relay.
In Saturday's individual events, UWL had four of the top-six finishers in the 200 backstroke as Sommer placed second (2:04.97),
Autumn Seebach third (2:05.66),
Jordy Hahlen fourth (2:06.41) and Rundahl sixth (2:09.18).
Maddy Albert-Nelson finished second (2:08.59) and
Abi Schauske third (2:13.52) in the 200 butterfly with
Brooke Presny fifth (2:19.00). Makenzie Wallce was fourth (2:27.70),
Lily Rosenau sixth (2:27.90), Schauske seventh (2:28.24) and
Alyssa Wallander ninth (2:30.61) in the 200 breaststroke.
The Eagles'
Claire Vandenhouten placed fifth (18:03.96),
Amelia Olson eighth (18:25.66) and
Madison Richter ninth (18:31.48) in the 1,650 freestyle while Eiynck was sixth (53.70) and
Brooke Laube 10th (54.57) in the 100 freestyle.
UWL returns to action Friday, February 24 at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Central Diving Regional in Chicago, Illinois.
