Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team is in second-place after the third day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Friday night in the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. The Eagles have 632.0 team points while UW-Eau Claire leads with 649.0.
UW-Stevens Point is third (388.0) with UW-Whitewater fourth (246.0) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (244.0).
In Friday's action, UWL's
Abi Schauske won the 400 I.M. (4:37.60). She is the first UWL swimmer to win the title since Noelle Anderson in 2014.
The Eagles'
Lily Rosenau was second (4:41.19) in the 400 I.M. with Maddie Richter fifth (4:47.65) and
Claire Vandenhouten sixth (4:53.87).
Lauren Steien placed second (57.22) in the 100 butterfly on Friday while
Maddy Albert-Nelson was fifth (58.22) and
Brooke Presny seventh (1:00.46). Steien was also fourth (1:06.32) in the 100 breaststroke with
Makenzie Wallace sixth (1:08.36),
Brooke Laube eighth (1:08.96) and
Alyssa Wallander 10th (1:08.47).
Jordy Hahlen placed third (57.63) in the 100 backstroke with
Autumn Seebach fourth (57.67),
Kylee Sommer fifth (57.85), Albert-Nelson ninth (59.64),
Paige Rundahl 10th (1:00.40) and
Reilly Eiynck 12th. Eiynck was also fifth (1:55.91) in the 200 freestyle while
Amelia Olson finished ninth (1:59.01).
Sommer, Rundahl, Laube and Steien were third (1:37.79) in the 200 freestyle relay.
UWL had six of the top-11 finishers in the one-meter diving on Friday, including
Joanne Banaszak placing second (413.30 points),
Laci Gottschalk third (411.45) and
Erika Hysalliu fourth (405.75).
Madeline Weber finished seventh (400.45),
Hannah Martini ninth (387.95) and
Lauren Feder 11th (356.05).
UWL completes action at the WIAC Championships on Saturday, February 18 with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
