Cedar Falls, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with a preseason exhibition loss at the University of Northern Iowa Monday night.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- The Panthers of UNI jumped out to an early 14-4 lead and led 29-10 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Eagles shot one-for-18 (5.6%) in the second quarter and were held to just three points. The Panthers shot 13-of-22 (59.1%) from the floor in the second quarter as they led 58-13 at halftime.
- UWL got their offense going in the third quarter and outscored Northern Iowa 25-24. Lindsey Knuth hit both of her three-pointers while Grace Knupp hit both of her shots and a free throw to spark the Eagles in the third quarter. UWL shot eight-of-15 (53.3%) from the floor and six-of-six from the free throw line in the quarter.
- UWL finished 19-of-68 (27.9%) from the floor including five-for-29 (17.2%) from behind the three-point line. UWL was eight-of-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
FROM THE BOXSCORE
- Lauryn Milne finished with 10 points and a team high six rebounds.
- Katie Waukau also added 10 points in her first game as an Eagle.
- Madisyn Kilboten chipped in eight points and three rebounds.
- Riley Wright led the Panthers with 17 points
- Taryn Wharton had a game high eight rebounds to go along with nine points for UNI.
