Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team, fourth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Dual Rankings, fell 33-3 at top-ranked Augsburg University (Minn.) Sunday afternoon in Si Melby Hall. The Eagles fall to 12-3 on the season while the Auggies improve to 8-1.
Augsburg (Minn.) took a 6-0 lead with a pair of decisions to start the dual. Derek Steele defeated
Brandon Murphy at 125-pounds (3-2) and Cade Willis defeated Zachary Weiler at 133 (3-0). Willis is ranked 13th in the NWCA.
Sam Stuhl and Cole Becker gave the Auggies a 14-0 lead with major decisions. Fifth-ranked Stuhl beat
Sam Lorenz at 141 (12-0) and Becker defeated sixth-ranked
Tyler Goebel at 149 (11-3).
Fourth-ranked Tyler Shilson's win by decision (4-2) over second-ranked
Nolan Hertel at 157-pounds and Cooper Willis' major decision (9-1) over
Noah Leisgang at 165-pounds gave Augsburg (Minn.) a 21-0 lead. Willis is currently ranked 10th while Leisgang is fifth.
UWL got on the board at 174-pounds with third-ranked
Seth Brossard earning a win by decision (12-7) over 11th-ranked Seth Goetzinger.
