La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 26-10 victory over UW-Platteville Friday night in a dual featuring a pair of top-20 teams in Mitchell Hall. With the win, fourth-ranked UWL improves to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). UW-Platteville, ranked 17th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), drops to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Brandon Murphy got things started first at 125-pounds with a win by decision (4-2 in overtime) over Nolan McKittrick to give UWL a 3-0 lead. Zach Thompson gave the UW-Platteville a 5-3 lead by earning a technical fall (15-0, 6:33) over
Zach Weiler at 133-pounds.
Sam Lorenz's win at 141-pounds by major decision (13-2) over Kyler Nueberger gave UWL a 7-5 lead.
Seth Brossard won by fall Friday night.
At 149-pounds,
Tyler Goebel won by decision (2-1) over Brock Parker to extend UWL's lead to 10-5.
Nolan Hertel won by major decision (12-3) over Aiden Brosinski at 157-pounds to give UWL a 14-5 lead. Then at 165-pounds,
Kaleb O'Reilly earned a win by decision (6-5) over Matt Rogge as the Eagles took a 17-5 lead.
Seth Brossard (174-pounds) defeated Nathan Wynsma by fall (2:38) to give the Eagles a 23-5 lead over the Pioneers. At 184-pounds,
Kalyn Jahn defeated Kasey Ross by decision (6-0). Tyler Hannah earned the Pioneers' three points to cut the deficit to 26-7 with a win by decision (2-0) over
Ben Kawczynski at 197-pounds.
In the final dual of the night, the Pioneers' Brett Schoenherr won by decision (3-2 in overtime) over the Eagles' Mike Douglas at 285-pounds.
UW-Platteville was deducted one team point for misconduct in Friday's dual.
