Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad finished third at the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) and National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) West Regional Saturday night in UW-Whitewater's Williams Center Field House.
UWL finished with a season-high score of 191.200 to qualify the NCGA Championships Saturday, March 26 at Ithaca College (N.Y.). UW-Oshkosh won the WIAC Championship Saturday with a team score of 192.300 while UW-Whitewater was second at 191.875. The top-three teams qualify for the national meet.
UW-Stout finished fourth (189.625) followed by UW-Eau Claire (187.450), Winona State University, Minn. (186.225), Gustavus Adolphus College, Minn. (184.800) and Hamline University, Minn. (184.400).Â
Emma Grant won the balance beam.
Along with setting a season-high in overall score, UWL also set season-highs on the vault (48.150) and uneven parallel bars (48.200). The Eagles' 48.150 on the vault is tied for fifth-highest in school history while the 48.200 on the uneven parallel bars ranks ninth in UWL history. UWL also scored 46.850 on the balance beam and 48.000 on the floor exercise Saturday.Â
UWL advances to the NCGA Championships for the 37th time in the 38-year history of the national meet. The NCGA Championships were first held in 1984. UWL has won an NCGA record 17 titles (1986, 1988, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016.

Emma Grant and
Rachel Chesley won individual event titles Saturday for UWL as Grant captured the balance beam (9.750) and Chesley the floor exercise (9.825). Â
The Eagles had three gymnasts finish in the top-11 in the vault with Chesley finishing tied for second (9.775),
Alex Wood tied for seventh (9.700) and
Madi Vanderpool 11th (9.650).Â

Kerrie Legault second (9.775),
Molly Lyngaas fifth (9.700) and Chesley eighth (9.650).Â

Joining Grant in the top-eight on the balance beam were
Olivia Opheim third (9.675) and
Cate Sandvik tied for eighth (9.550).

The Eagles had four gymnasts finish in the top-12 on the floor exercise, including Chesley taking the title.
Jenna Danninger was fourth (9.700), Wood 10th (9.650) and Sandvik 12th (9.600).

The top-six finishers in each event earn All-WIAC honors.
