UWL Scores First Six Goals in Home Win Over Edgewood

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 19-5 victory over Edgewood College (Wis.) Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season while the Edgewood (Wis.) Eagles drop to 2-5. 

UWL scored the first six goals of the game, including two each from Nicole Jernander, Lauren Schwartz and Megan Feeney. Edgewood (Wis.) cut it to 6-1, but UWL scored the next three goals to lead 9-1 after the first quarter. Kiersten Pelletier, Feeney and Abigail Steigauf scored.

The Eagles scored all three goals in the second quarter for a 12-1 lead. Grace Willmott, Feeney and Schwart scored. 

UWL notched the only four goals of the third period to take a 16-1 advantage. Jernander scored all four goals. Steigauf scored to start the fourth quarter and Feeney added two more goals as UWL improved to 2-0 all-time versus Edgewood (Wis.). 

UWL finished with 39 shots in the game, including 18 in the first quarter. Jernander and Feeney each tallied six goals with Feeney adding two assists and Jernander one. Schwartz totaled three goals and three assists. Steigauf had two goals.

Abigale Furlano earned the win in goal, recording three saves in playing the first half of 30:00. Emily Hageman had five saves in 19:58 while Nora Riley played the final 10:02. The Eagles were 14-of-18 in clear attempts while recording 21 ground balls. Furlano had five ground balls and Jernander four. 

Edgewood (Wis.) totaled 16 shots and 17 ground balls. Natalie Skaife led the Eagles with four goals. Kendra Sanderfoot recorded the team's other goal. Alexis Vogt finished with 13 saves. Four different players had four ground balls in the game.

UWL returns to action Saturday, March 26 hosting Illinois Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
