Ethan Anderson of
Black River Falls (H.S.) has been selected to the 2021-22 D3hoops.com All-Region 9 Team, the organization announced Tuesday. It is Anderson's first career all-region honor.
Anderson, one of five players named to the All-Region 9 First Team, is now eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America Team set to be released Saturday, March 19. This is the 21st season D3hoops.com has named All-Region teams. He is the eighth student-athlete in school history to earn All-Region honors, joining
Eddie Hebert (2002),
Casey Taggatz (2003, 2004),
Joe Werner (2006, 2007),
Chris Ask (2007),
Tony Mane (2010, 2011),
Jared Staege (2016) and
Wyatt Cook (2021).
Voted to the 2021-22 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) First Team, Anderson led UWL in scoring (19.3), field goal goals made (199) and attempted (383), free throws made (91) and attempted (107). His 85.0% free throw shooting also led the Eagles. He was second in three-point field goals attempted (97) and third in made three-pointers (31) while ranking third in rebounding (5.0), assists (1.7) and steals (1.1).
Anderson was also named to the 2022 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division III District 9 First Team.
Ethan Anderson earned his third career All-WIAC First Team selection this season.
Named the WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week four times this season, Anderson led the WIAC in scoring (19.3) and free throw shooting (85.0%) while ranking ninth in field goal shooting (52.0%), 12th in steals (1.1) and 15th in rebounding (4.8).
Anderson ranks 10th in school history in career scoring (1,271 points). His 520 points in 2021-22 ranks seventh in single-season school history. Anderson is fourth in school history in free throw shooting (86.6%), 10th in field goals made (447) and 11th in attempts (946), 10th in career three-point attempts (336), 12th in three-point field goals made (126) and 13th in free throws made (126). He has played in 90 career games at UWL, including 65 starts. He has scored in double figures in 64 career games.
Anderson earned his third career All-WIAC First Team honor this season after being selected in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He is the fourth player in school history to earn three all-conference first team accolades, joining
Eric Haug (1972-73, 1973-74, 1974-75),
Larry Halverson (1974-75, 1975-76, 1976-77) and Werner (2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07).
Scoring in double figures in all 27 games he started this year, Anderson had at least 20 points in 12 games. He had a season-high 29 points in UWL's 90-86 victory over Heidelberg University (Ohio) March 4 as the Eagles earned their first-ever National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Tournament win. Anderson was 11-of-15 from the field, including one-of-four from three-point range, and six-of-six at the free throw line while adding eight rebounds. He had 27 points at Augsburg University (Minn.) November 27, going 11-of-15 from the field, including three-of-four from three-point range, and two-of-two at the free throw line.
Anderson was named the MVP of the Virginia Wesleyan University Tip-off Tournament November 5-6, averaging 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games.
UWL finished 21-7 overall and 9-5 in the WIAC this season under head coach
Kent Dernbach. The Eagles' 21 wins tied the single-season school record for victories (1975-76, 2019-20). UWL made its third appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships, earning its first victory with the win over Heidelberg (Ohio) in this year's first round. The Eagles advanced to the WIAC Tournament semifinals for the fourth straight season.
