Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned a 43-0 victory at UW-Stevens Point Friday night in the Eagles' final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual of the season. UWL improves to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC while UW-Stevens Point drops to 8-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
UWL now leads the all-time series, 45-26, with UW-Stevens Point. The Eagles have won the last 20 meetings with the Pointers.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead at 125-pounds with
Brandon Murphy winning by decision (6-3) over Luca Paladino.
Julian Purney winning by forfeit at 133 gave UWL a 9-0 lead.
Tyler Shackle earned a technical fall (16-2, 4:15) over Drew Willeman at 141-pounds while
Sam Lorenz won by fall (:28) over Sam Johnson at 149 to make it 20-0.
Fourth-ranked
Nolan Hertel won by technical fall (17-2, 4:00) over Mason Wheeler at 157-pounds for a 25-0 lead.
Seth Brossard and
Isaac Gust earned wins by decision to give UWL a 31-0 advantage. Brossard, ranked fifth at 165-pounds, won by decision (8-4) over Brandon Peckham while Gust defeated Trystan Altensey (6-2) at 174.
Tenth-ranked
Kalyn Jahn won by fall (3:45) over Ben Kasten at 184-pounds for a 37-0 lead.
Marcus Orlandoni and
Ben Kawczynski each won by decision to complete the shutout win. Orlandoni defeated Alex Mischka (8-4) at 197-pounds while Kawczynski, ranked sixth at 285, won by decision (2-0) over Noah Wieczorek.
In an exhibition match, UWL's
Michael Douglas won by decision (5-2) over UW-Stevens Point's Ben Gunderson.
UWL concludes its regular season Saturday, February 5 at the UW-Eau Claire Don Parker Open starting at 9 a.m.
