Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. - Three members of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the Citrus Invitational Wednesday at Borward County Convention Center. The Eagles placed 15th with 23.5 team points. Augsburg University (Minn.) won the team title with 219.5 points. A total of 16 teams competed.

Joe Penchi took the 149-pound title in the Warrior Bracket with a 3-0 record. He received a first round bye and won by technical fall (17-0) over Nicholas Palso of Castleton College (Vt.) in the quarterfinals. Penchi won by major decision (15-1) over Kaden Gransbury of Castleton (Vt.) in the semifinals and took the championship with a major decision (16-6) over Caleb Seyfried of Williams College (Mass.).
In the 149-pound NCAA Bracket, Penchi finished 2-2 with both of his wins coming by fall.
Cael Weinzweig placed sixth at 133-pounds with a 3-3 record. He won by decision (8-2) over Blake Schmitt of Liberty University (Va.) in the second round after receiving a first round bye. Weinzweig won by decision (7-5) over Ayden Nicklaus of Cornell College (Iowa) in the third round and by medical forfeit in the quarterfinals. He lost by major decision (11-2) in the semifinals and by decision (9-2) in the consolation semifinals. Weinzweig dropped the fifth-place match by decision (9-4).

Parker Kratochvill finished seventh at 149-pounds on Wednesday with a 4-2 record. After a first round bye, he won by fall (:59) over Kyle Pokornowski of Castleton (Vt.) in the second round and by decision (9-2) over Kale Buckiso of John Carroll University (Ohio) in the third round. He lost by decision (4-3) to Jarrod Pominville of Roanoke College (Va.) in the quarterfinals, but came back with a decision win (9-2) over Christian Espinoza of St. Thomas University (Fla.) in the consolation round. After dropping his next consolation round match by major decision (10-2), Kratochvill took seventh-place with a fall (2:35) over Veliko Kochiu of Concordia University Wisconsin.
UWL returns to action Friday, January 6 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Divisional National Duals in Louisville, Kentucky.
