Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team opened its 2022-23 season at the Rochester Community & Technical College (Minn.) Yellowjacket Open Saturday. No team scores were recorded.
In the open division, seven wrestlers placed, including
Michael Douglas who took the 285-pound title with a 3-0 record. He won by fall (2:46) over Nate Fredenburg of Nebraska Wesleyan University in his opening match and by decision (5-4) over Levi Malcom of the University of Mary (N.D.) in the semifinals. Douglas won the title with a decision (3-2) over Edward Hajas of Augustana College (S.D.).

Kaleb O'Reilly (165) placed second with a 2-1 mark on Saturday while Parker Kratochvill (149) was third, going 3-1.
Brandon Murphy (125) and
Nolan Paar (174) each placed fourth with Murphy finishing 1-1 and Paar 2-2 with one win by fall.
Tyler Goebel (149) finished fifth (3-1) and
Leo Draveling (184) sixth (2-2).
Other results for UWL included Marcus Orlandoni finishing 3-1 at 197-pounds. Zachary Weiler (141) went 1-1 with his win by fall. Cole Hansen (165) finished 1-2 while Kyle Plank (184) went 0-2.
In the freshman/sophomore division, five wrestlers placed for UWL. Cooper Larson (157) was second with a 4-1 record, earning two wins by fall. Cael Weinzweig (125) was third with a 3-1 record while Remington Bontreger (125) finished fourth with a 3-2 mark. Juan Garcia (149) was sixth with a 5-2 record (one win by fall) and Sam Schwabe (174) placed eighth with a 2-2 record.
Piersson Czaplinski (165) went 0-2.
UWL returns to action Thursday, November 10 opening Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action at UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
