La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team had a busy Saturday as it competed at both the Auggie Invite hosted by Augsburg University (Minn.) and the Concordia University Wisconsin Open. No team scores were recorded.
At the Concordia Open, the Eagles had seven of their nine wrestlers place, including
Nolan Hertel (first),
Noah Leisgang and
Seth Brossard (second),
Marcus Orlandoni (third),
Tyler Goebel (fourth) and
Parker Kratochvill and
Kaleb O'Reilly (fifth).
Hertel won the title at 157-pounds with a perfect 5-0 record, including a win by fall (5:54) over Alex Villar of North Central College (Ill.) in the championship match. Leisgang finished second 165-pounds while O'Reilly was fifth. Leisgang went 4-1 on the day losing to Nathan Fuller of Wartburg College (Iowa) by decision (3-1) in the title match. O'Reilly went 5-2, including winning the fifth-place match by decision (3-1) over Carter Proffitt of Wartburg (Iowa).
Seth Brossard placed second at 174-pounds at the Concordia Open.
At 149-pounds, Goebel finished third by going 4-2 on the day. Goebel lost the third-place match by decision (12-7) to Javen Estrada of North Central (Ill.). Kratochvill took fifth at 149, going 4-2. He won by decision (4-2) over Kyler Romero of Wartburg (Iowa) in the fifth-place match.
Brossard, at 174-pounds, finished second by winning four of five matches. Brossard lost by decision (7-1) to Zane Mulder of Wartburg (Iowa) in the championship match.
Orlandoni went 5-1 at 197-pounds to place third, defeating (7-6) Colin Murphy of Loras College (Iowa).
Ben Kawczynski finished 5-1 at 197-pounds, winning the consolation championship. He defeated (8-2) Elijah Brockie of North Central (Ill.) in the consolation title match.
Nolan Paar went 1-2 at 184-pounds.
At the Auggie Invitational, UWL had four wrestlers place in Gold Division while four others earned top-finishes in the freshman division.
In the Gold Bracket,
Cael Weinzweig finished third at 125-pounds after going 2-2 on the day. At 133-pounds,
Trevor Pearson went 3-2 to finish sixth overall.
Cole Hansen, wrestling at 165 pounds, also placed sixth after going 4-1. The Eagles'
Michael Douglas finished fifth at 285-pounds with a 4-1 record.
Wyatt Simon (174),
Leo Draveling (184) and
Kyle Plank (184) each went 2-2.
In the freshman bracket,
Juan Garcia (141-pounds) went 3-0 to finish first while
Cooper Larson (157) finished 4-1 to place fifth.
Elijah Lucio (165) finished fifth with a 2-2 record and
Piersson Czaplinski (165) was sixth going 3-2 overall.
UWL returns to action Saturday, December 3 hosting North Central College (Ill.) at 9 a.m. and Coe College (Iowa) at 12:15 p.m.
