Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving teams opened its season Saturday. The women's squad placed fourth in a quadrangular with 312.0 team points while the men's team finished third in a triangular with 411.0 points.
On the women's side, Minnesota State University, Mankato captured the team title (691.5) with St. Cloud State University, Minn. (680.0) second, Truman State University (Mo.) third (464.5) and UWL (312.0). In men's action, St. Cloud State (Minn.) was first followed by Truman State (Mo.) with 563.0 and UWL with 411.0.
On the women's side, UWL's 200 medley relay placed fourth (1:52.28) while the 200 freestyle relay was fifth (1:42.16).
Jordy Hahlen recorded the Eagles' best individual finish, placing third (1:00.58) in the 100 backstroke. She was also sixth (2:14.51) in the 200 backstroke.
Autumn Seebach was fourth (2:13.03) in the 200 backstroke while
Lauren Steien was sixth (1:00.06) in the 100 butterfly, seventh (1:10.16) in the 100 breaststroke and eighth (2:17.58) in the 200 I.M.
Emily Schoenbrodt finished seventh (1:01.54) in the 100 butterfly while
Brooke Laube was seventh in the 100 freestyle (55.89).
Paige Rundahl finished seventh (25.53) in the 50 freestyle and eighth (2:16.27) in the 200 backstroke.
In the 100 backstroke,
Kylee Sommer finished eighth (1:02.88),
Amanda Richards ninth (1:03.35) and
Kinzie Reischl 12th (1:05.22). Abi Schause placed ninth (2:36.19) in the 200 butterfly.
Other top-12 finishes included
Emma Truman 10th (5:32.89) in the 500 freestyle with
Amanda Richards 11th (2:17.72) and Sommer 12th (2:18.05) in the 200 backstroke.
Lily Rosenau finished 11th (2:39.14) and
Emma Schneider 12th (2:42.24) in the 200 breaststroke while
Makenzie Wallace was 12th (1:11.40) in the 100 breaststroke. Seebach was 12th (2:02.90) in the 200 freestyle.
In diving held at Minnesota State Mankato,
Erika Hysalliu was eighth (204.10 points) in the one-meter competition with
Laci Gottschalk ninth (212.2) in the three-meter. Gottschalk was also 12th (189.35) in the one-metrer.
Joanne Banaszak finished 10th (201.8) in the one-meter with
Madeline Weber 10th (209.5) and
Hannah Martini 12th (204.7) in the three-meter.
UWL's men's 200 medley relay placed third (1:36.97) on Saturday with the 200 freestyle relay fourth (1:27.33). Individually, the Eagles'
Jonah Elfers was fourth (53.43) in the 100 butterfly. Four swimmers recorded fifth-place finishes, including
Ming Ong in the 100 backstroke (55.90),
Blake Nelson in the 50 freestyle (21.76), Nick Litterer in the 100 freestyle (47.89) and
Will Quackenbush in the 200 freestyle (1:47.14).
Elfers was also 12th (49.78) in the 100 freestyle with Nelson 11th (49.76) and
Connor Cleveland 10th (49.69).
Ong was also seventh (2:06.25) in the 200 backstroke with Litterer sixth (21.90) and Cleveland tied for eighth (22.65) in the 50 freestyle. Quackenbush finished seventh (2:23.87),
Owen Montheard 10th (2:29.43) and
Will Jager 11th (2:30.64) in the 200 breaststroke. Quackenbush was eighth (1:04.26),
Jacob Brehmer 10th (1:04.64) and
Blake Harre 12th (1:05.44) in the 100 breaststroke.
Caleb Jondle finished seventh (2:09.32) in the 200 butterfly and eighth (2:07.42) in the 200 I.M. Brehmer finished ninth (2:08.68) and
Andrew Perrin 12th (2:12.46) in the 200 I.M. Perrin was ninth (5:06.37), Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicot 10th (5:17.88),
Jonathan Pella 11th (5:22.36) and
Matthew Geils 12th (5:33.78) in the 500 freestyle.
Jake Jensen placed eighth in the 100 (57.16) and 200 (2:07.78) backstroke.
Brevin Kruse was ninth (57.65) and
Jesse Hammes 11th (58.37) in the 100 backstroke.
In men's diving,
Vance Winter placed second (204.10 points) in the one-meter and fifth (174.30) in the three-meter.
Evan Zimdars finished second (213.05),
Tony McNiff third (192.60 and
Tyler Herder seventh (171.30) in the three-meter competition while McNiff was also third (200.70) and Herder sixth (171.55) in the one-meter.
