Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team picked up a non-conference win on Saturday night at Mitchell Hall as they defeated Buena Vista University (Iowa) 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-21). The win moves the Eagles to 8-9 overall while the Beavers fall to 6-10 on the season.
Gabrialla Johnson helped the Eagles take an early 4-1 lead as she recorded two kills in the first five points.
Brianne Korducki would then help UWL extend their lead to 13-7 with three kills of her own. Buena Vista would not get any closer than four (13-9) the rest of the opening set. As a team, UWL hit an impressive .528 as they finished with 20 kills and just one hitting error.
The second set saw both teams trade points with neither team taking a lead of more than point over the first 20 points. With the score tied at 10, Buena Vista scored three straight points to take a 13-10 lead. UWL would respond with a 9-3 run to take a 19-16 lead. The Beavers cut their deficit to 22-20; however, the Eagles scored three of the final five points to take the second set 25-22. Johnson, Korducki and
Madison Gully recorded the final three kills for the Eagles.
Sydney Fedderly finished with team high 11 digs.
Buena Vista scored the first three points of the third set but UWL then scored seven of the next eight to lead 7-4. UWL would take its largest lead of the third set at 16-11 before BVU came from behind to take a 20-19 lead. Back-to-back kills by
Megan Adams along with kills from Johnson and Gully helped the Eagles regain the lead 23-20. Courtney Johnson stopped the run for the Beavers; however, a hitting error by BVU and kill by Gully helped UWL close out the third set 25-21.
For the match, UWL hit a season high .371 (53-10-116) and were led by Korducki with 14 kills in two sets. Johnson added 12 kills while Gully finished with a season high seven gills. Adams led the Eagles with 37 assists while
Sydney Fedderly finished with 11 digs.
Buena Vista finished the match hitting .198 (34-14-101) and were led by Johnson with 11 kills. Skylar Needham finished with 28 assists while Molly Bense had a team high 13 digs.
UWL will return to action on Wednesday, October 5th when they face UW-Oshkosh at 7:00 p.m.
