Greensboro, N.C. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team finished fifth Saturday at the 2021 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships at Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T State University. The Eagles totaled 39.0 team points.
Wartburg College (Iowa) captured the national title with 54.0 points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 49.0, UW-Oshkosh third with 48.0 and Rowan University (N.J.) fourth with 41.0. The University of Mount Union (Ohio) placed sixth (31.0), Carleton College (Minn.) seventh (29.0), North Central College (Ill.) and UW-Stout tied for eighth (28.0) and Loras College (Iowa) 10th (22.0).
A total of 78 teams scored points.

It is UWL's 31st top-10 finish at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The Eagles have won an NCAA III record 15 (1988, 1991-93, 1997, 2001-04, 2006-07, 2013, 2015-17) outdoor national titles. The team has earned 27 top-four finishes.
UWL also has an NCAA Division III record 18 (1987-88, 1991-94, 1997, 2001-06, 2008-09, 2013-14, 2017) indoor titles. The 2020 and 2021 indoor national championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 public health threat.

Josh Buchholtz, earned 16 NCAA Division III All-America honors at this year's championships, including 12 on Saturday.

Josh Koenecke captured the 4x100-meter relay national title on Saturday with a winning time of 40.21. It is the Eagles' fourth NCAA Division III title in the event, including second for Koenecke.

Holden, De Bruin, Reichart and Koenecke set a school record in Thursday's preliminaries with a time of 40.18.

Jake Sullivan finished fourth (3:12.79) Saturday to earn All-America honors.
Holden, Koenecke and Pearce also earned individual All-America awards on Saturday. Holden picked up two honors, finishing sixth (10.66) in the 100-meter dash and seventh (21.48) in the 200-meter dash. Koenecke was fourth (10.58) in Saturday's 100-meter dash to earn recognition while Pearce placed seventh (47.98) in the 400-meter dash.
In other action on Saturday, UWL's
Michael Madoch placed 12th (3:53.25) in the 1,500-meter run while
Nick Crary finished 17th in the triple jump (43-9 1/4).
