Swimming & Diving Team Wraps Up Season at UW-Whitewater

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving teams completed its 2020-21 seasons with a dual at UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon. No team scores were recorded. 

On the women's side, UWL won five individual titles on Saturday.  Emily Boettger took a pair of first-place finishes, including the 100 (55.07) and 200 (2:02.10) freestyle.  Aubrey Lonergan won the 50 freestyle (26.51), Claire Vandenhouten the 1,000 freestyle (11:01.32) and Kinzie Reischl the 100 backstroke (1:04.69). Vandenhouten was also second (5:00.52) in the 400 I.M. while Lonergan finished third in the 100 freestyle (57.34).

The Eagles' Emma Coltman and Emily Rundahl recorded a pair of second-place finishes.  Coltman was second in the 100 (1:12.27) and 200 (2:40.46) breaststroke while Rundahl finished second in the 100 (1:05.50) and 200 (2:20.75) backstroke.

Other second-place finishes Saturday included Molly Banks in the 100 freestyle (57.18), Lexi Ashe in the 200 freestyle (2:04.71), Lexi Burgos in the 500 reestyle (5:50.80) and Ellie Szczupakiewicz in the 100 butterfly (1:03.57).  Third-place showings for UWL included Isabelle Buhler in the 500 freestyle (5:58.09), Kathleen Casella in the 1,000 freestyle (11:49.32), Brooke Presny in the 100 butterfly (1:05.57), Kylee Sommer in the 200 backstroke (2:21.20), Amanda Wciorka in the 200 I.M. (2:22.25) and Samantha Rod in the 400 I.M. (5:01.85).

UWL's 200 medley relay of Rundahl, Coltman, Sami Smejkal and Molly Banks were second (1:57.25) while Lindsey Evenson, Boettger, Natalie Sims and Szczupakiewicz finished second (1:46.21) in the 200 freestyle relay. 

On the men's side, UWL captured a pair of individual events as Ming Ong won the 200 butterfly (1:57.67) and 200 backstroke (1:57.19). He was also second in the 100 butterfly (53.03). 

The Eagles recorded four second-place finishes on Saturday, including Matthew Geils in the 200 freestyle (2:01.45), Andrew Perrin in the 1,000 freestyle (10:45.11), Ben Hendel in the 200 butterfly (2:08.14) and Colin Brady in the 200 I.M. (2:12.07). Brady was also third in the 50 freestyle (24.18).

Mickey Keating finished third in the 100 (51.66) and 1,000 (11:13.67) freestyle while Frederick Grelle was third in the 100 backstroke (1:00.57). Will Quackenbush finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.65) and Blake Harre third in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.19).

UWL's 200 freestyle relay of Quackenbush, Keating, Harre and Ong were second (1:32.19) while Ben Stelter, Harre, Hendel and Grelle finished third (1:46.17) in the 200 medley relay.
