La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 14-4 victory over Edgewood College (Wis.) Friday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 4-3 on the season while Edgewood (Wis.) falls to 0-4.
UWL's
Lauren Schwartz would score the first goal Friday night unassisted at 27:07 and
Nicole Jernander would find
Samantha Sonstegard at 23:33 for her first of the season. The Eagles would take a 3-0 lead at 21:42 when Jernander found the back of the net with the assist from Schwartz. Jernander scored again on a man-up goal with the help from
Abigail Steigauf at 16:17.
Nicole Jernander had three points Friday.
UWL continued growing its lead with five consecutive goals to take a 9-0 lead in the game as Schwartz (15:08),
Grace Willmott (10:30),
Mackenzie Chvatal (9:17), Willmott (8:30) and
Bella Post (7:06) all scored. Edgewood (Wis.) would score its first of the game at 5:23 with an unassisted goal from Samantha Velander but
Britta Nelson would assist
Valerie Johnson for her first of the game (1:23) to give the Eagles a 10-1 lead heading into halftime.
Edgewood (Wis.) had 10 shots in the first half while UWL finished with 23.
Steigauf would score her first of the night (19:40) unassisted to extend the UWL's lead by 10, but Edgewood (Wis.) would answer back as Velander notched her second of the night to make it an 11-2 game at 18:28. A failed clear attempt from Edgewood (Wis.) allowed Chvatal to score her second goal of the game (14:49) for a 12-2 lead. The Eagles'
Claire Gentry would score her first career goal unassisted on a man-up opportunity to make it a 13-2 game with 8:28 remaining before Edgewood would score the next two goals.
Maia Weiler scored UWL's last goal of the night on an assisted from
Anna Davis.
Lauren Schwartz had a game -high five points Friday.
UWL finished with 37 shots, with 24 on goal. Chvatal, Willmott, Jernander and Schwartz totaled two goals each while Schwartz had a game-high three assists while adding four ground balls. Johnson ended the night with four ground balls while Nelson and Steigauf won two draw controls, Steigauf also had four caused turnovers.
Abi Furlano earned the win in net recording five saves for UWL.
Edgewood (Wis.) totaled 17 shots in the game. Alexis Vogt finished with 10 saves.
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 27 hosting Carthage College (Wis.) at 1 p.m.
