Box Score Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team fell 16-11 at Loras College Wednesday night in the Rock Bowl. The Eagles drop to 3-3 on the season while the Duhawks improve to 3-2.
Loras (Iowa) scored the first four goals of the game Tuesday, including three from Clare Brunn. UWL got on the board at 22:09 with
Nicole Jernander scoring off a
Abigail Steigauf assist. Pearl Mueller gave the Duhawks a 5-1 lead at 19:49 before Jernander scored her second goal of the game at 16:41 to cut the margin to 5-2.
Nicole Jernander had three goals and one assist.
Loras (Iowa) responded with three straight goals to take an 8-2 lead, including Brunn's fourth goal of the game coming at 7:35. UWL got a one-man up goal at 3:50 from
Lauren Schwartz and assisted by
Valerie Johnson to make it 8-3 and
Mackenzie Chvatal's unassisted goal at 1:18 cut it to 8-4. Schwartz scored her second goal at :47, assisted by Chvatal, to make it 8-5, but Marianne Gleason's unassisted goal at :04 gave Loras (Iowa) a 9-5 halftime lead.
Brunn got the scoring started in the second half at 26:48 for a 10-5 lead. Chvatal cut the deficit to 10-6 at 26:11, but Mueller's goal at 23:19 gave Loras (Iowa) an 11-6 advantage. Chvatal (22:35) cut it to 11-7 before Brunn (19:39) made it a five-goal game again. Schwartz scored for UWL at 18:55 on Steigauf's assist to cut it to 12-8, but back-to-back goals from Erin Conley (17:04) and Brunn (11:02) gave Loras (Iowa) a 14-8 lead.
Schwartz (10:50) and Jernander (7:08) cut the lead to 14-10, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game. Brunn (6:29; 1:27) tallied two more goals for Loras (Iowa) while Schwartz (3:03) scored for UWL for the final three goals.
UWL totaled 40 shots in the game, including 32 on goal. Schwarz finished with five goals while Chvatal and Jernander each ad three. Steigauf finished with two assists.
Abi Furlano recorded eight saves and four ground balls. Johnson,
Marin Kerr and
Savannah Allen each had three ground balls.
Loras (Iowa) finished with 25 shots, including 24 on goal. Brunn led the Duhawks with nine goals while Katlynne Wolf recorded 10 assists. Lydia Phelps had 20 saves.
UWL returns to action Friday, March 26 hosting Edgewood College (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
