Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse lacrosse team earned a 13-4 victory over Augsburg University (Minn.) Friday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season with their first varsity home win in school history. The Auggies fall to 0-1.
Bella Post had two goals on Friday night.
Augsburg (Minn.) scored the first goal Friday night from on a man-down free position from Tehya Reinbold. UWL responded with five consecutive goals to take a 5-1 lead in the game as
Abigail Steigauf (26:57) would score the first while
Britta Nelson,
Nicole Jernander and
Grace Willmott all scored.
Augsburg's (Minn.) Mikayla Knudson (1:30) would score on a free position to cut the deficit to 5-2 but Nelson would assist Willmott for a goal (1:08) to give UWL a 6-2 lead heading into halftime.
Augsburg (Minn.) had six shots in the first half while UWL finished with 20.
The Eagles took an 8-2 lead when
Bella Post scored her first career goal (28:50), and
Valerie Johnson notched her first of the game at 28:36 but Reinbold would score on another free position at 27:39 for the Auggies. Nelson would answer back with her third goal of the night minutes later but Megan Furlong would score Augsburg's last goal of the night on an unassisted shot in the eight-meter.
Grace Willmott had a goal with five shots.
UWL would go on a four goal run to end the game with
Mackenzie Chvatal scoring back to back goals for the Eagles' (13:49, 13:20), Johnson (5:50) and Elizabeth Kolodziej (:50) would earn her first career goal to end the night.
UWL finished with 37 shots, including seven from Chvatal. Willmott finished with five shots and Jernander four. Nelson totaled three goals and one assists for the Eagles while Chvatal, Post and Johnson all had two goals.
Abi Furlano would earn the win in net recording two saves for UWL while
Ellen Coggio also made two saves.
Megan Brokmeier would have a team-high seven ground balls including two caused turnovers.
Augsburg (Minn.) totaled 15 shots in the game. Maddie Seykora finished with 16 saves.
UWL returns to action Saturday, March 13 hosting Wartburg College (Iowa) at 1 p.m.
