Box Score Menomonie, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team earned a 75-61 victory over UW-Stout Friday night in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles improve to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils fall to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
UWL would start the game racing out to a 9-2 lead after
Emma Gamoke scored on a jumper with 7:37 remaining in the first quarter. Gamoke scored seven of the Eagles' first nine points. UW-Stout cut the lead to 9-7 with 4:26 left on a Paityn Tiefs three-pointer, but
Gabby Ritchie made a pair of free throws and Gamoke assisted on a
Julia Seidel three-pointer to make it 14-7 lead with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter. UWL led, 14-12, after the first quarter.
UW-Stout took a 19-17 lead with 6:36 remaining in the second quarter on a Anna Mutch layup, but UWL used an 11-2 run to take a 28-21 lead with 3:01 left on Ritchie's three-point play. UW-Stout came back to cut the halftime deficit to 33-31.
UWL took a 42-34 lead with 6:10 left in the third quarter on a pair of
Casandra Warmsley free throws, but UW-Stout cut the deficit to three five different times in the quarter. UWL led, 53-47, after three quarters.
The Eagles scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to take a 58-47 lead with 4:49 remaining. The Blue Devils failed to score in the fourth quarter until Liz Oswald hit a free throw with 4:23 left to cut the lead to 58-48. UW-Stout would get no closer the rest of the game.
UWL shot 43.1% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 78.1% (25-of-32) at the line. Gamoke, Ritchie and
Ava Kramer led the Eagles with 16 points each. Ritchie went eight-of-eight at the line.
Lexie Higgins finished with 10 points and team-high nine rebounds. Seidel totaled nine points, three rebounds and three assists.
UW-Stout shot 33.8% from the field, including 20.0% (four-of-20) from three-point range, and 59.1% (13-of-22) at the line. Oswald led the Blue Devils with 15 points while Mutch finished with 13 points and team-high eight rebounds.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 24 at UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
