La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team opened its 2021-22 home schedule with a 32-13 victory over University of the Ozarks (Ark.) Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 1-0 on the season.
The dual was part of the Battle of the Bluffs, featuring National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, II and III institutions. In the NCAA Division I dual, the University of Wisconsin earned a 32-13 victory over Little Rock (Ark.) while in NCAA Division II, Upper Iowa University defeated Ouachita Baptist University (Ark.) by the score of 23-15. A crowd of 882 attended the duals.
Luke Clark won by sudden victory at 174.
Ozarks (Ark.) took a 6-0 lead over UWL on Friday night with Nathan Ranking winning by fall (3:20) over
Brandon Murphy at 125-pounds. UWL cut the lead to 6-3 at 133 as
Sawyer Sarbacker won by decision (4-0) over Gabriel Brandenburg. The Eagles of Ozark (Ark.) took a 13-3 lead after taking the next two matches. Jake Dado won by major decision (13-3) over
Sam Lorenz at 141-pounds while Jaylen York earned a decision (12-8) over
Tyler Goebel.
UWL won the final six matches to win the dual.
Nolan Hertel started the rally with a win by fall (4:19) over Russell Miller at 157-pounds to cut the lead to 13-9.
Seth Brossard followed with a win by fall (2:17) over Ndayambaje John at 165-pounds to give UWL a 15-13 advantage.
Kalyn Jahn won by fall at 184.
Luke Clark made it 18-13 with a sudden victory (6-4) over John Ward at 174-pounds and
Kalyn Jahn's win by fall (1:35) over Daniel Benoit at 184-pounds gave the Eagles a 24-13 lead.
Isaac Lahr followed with win by technical fall (16-1, 2:37) over Cruz Partain at 197-pounds for a 29-13 lead and
Ben Kawczynski won by decision (7-1) over Cameron Oliver at 285-pounds.
UWL returns to action Saturday, November 13 at the Luther College (Iowa) Open at 9 a.m.
