Colfax, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's cross country team captured its 10th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) Saturday afternoon at Whitetail Golf Course. The Eagles won their first league crown since 2016 with 33 team points. UW-Eau Claire was second with 62.
UW-Oshkosh placed third (83) winning a tie-breaker over UW-Stevens Point which finished fourth (83). Â UW-Stout was fifth (119) followed by UW-Whitewater (192), UW-River Falls (207) and UW-Plattville (213).Â

Derek Stanley has now led UWL to four WIAC Championships (2013-14, 2016, 2021) while finishing second on five occasions (2012, 2015, 2017-19).  A total of 58 All-WIAC cross country honors have been earned under Stanley, including 24 first team selections and 18 second team choices.
UWL is ranked 11th, UW-Eau Claire 20th and UW-Stevens Point 25th in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III based on the October 20 rankings distributed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Eagles recorded four of the top-seven individual finishes on Saturday. Â
Jenna Lovejoy led UWL with a third-place finish, completing the 6,000-meter course in 22:34.3. Â
Emma Malooly placed fifth (22:40.2),
Rachel Jeffers sixth (22:41.5) and
Maddie Hannan seventh (22:49.1). Lovejoy was selected the WIAC Newcomer of the Year.
Madelynn McIntyre finished 12th (22:55.3) for UWL with
Maddy Vantassel 13th (23:01.8),
Kaylan Marshall 14th (23:02.3),
Katelyn Chadwick 20th (23:15.0) and
Madeline Sweeney 24th (23:35.7) as the Eagles had nine runners in the top-24 overall. Marshall was selected the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete on Saturday. Sweeney was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team at the conclusion of the championships, chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.Â

Hannah Lohrenz of UW-Oshkosh won the individual title (22:20.5). A total of 82 runners completed the race.Â
The top-seven runners receive All-WIAC first team recognition, while runners placing eight through 14 earn All-WIAC second team accolades. Individuals finishing 15 through 20 claim honorable mention laurels.
UWL returns to action at the NCAA Division III North Regional at Whitetail Golf Course on Saturday, November 13.  The NCAA Division III Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 20 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.Â
