WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships (presented by Culver's)
Oshkosh, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track and field team captured its seventh Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championship (presented by Culver's) in the last eight years Saturday at UW-Oshkosh's Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles won their league record 27th title in school history with 231.0 points.
UW-Eau Claire placed second with 127.5 points while UW-Oshkosh was third with 92.0. UW-Stevens Point finished fourth (63.0) followed by UW-Whitewater (49.0), UW-Stout (48.5), UW-Platteville (36.0) and UW-River Falls (15.0).
Savannah Rygiewicz captured a pair of individual crowns on Saturday, winning the 60 (7.62) and 200 (25.37) meter dashes. It marks the second straight season Rygiewicz swept the 60 and 200-meter dash titles. She joins
Meg Heafy (2016) in UWL history to win both events at the same league championships.
The Eagles'
Emma Lawrence won the 60-meter hurdles (8.82) Saturday afternoon. She is the first UWL sprinter to capture the title since
Claire Gordee won back-to-back crowns in 2015 and 2016.
UWL took the top-three places in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday with
Isabelle Kick second (9.00) and
Hannah Zenkovich third (9.02).
Rebecca Breyer was seventh (9.18).
Emma Platzbecker,
Amber Johnson, Lawrence and
Mara Schroeder won the 4x400-meter relay (3:54.46). It is UWL's second straight league crown. Schroeder was also a member of the 2019 winning relay.
In Saturday's field events, the Eagles'
Skye Digman won her second league title at this year's meet, taking the weight throw (56-0 1/2). She won the shot put title on Friday. Digman is the first UWL thrower to win the WIAC title in the weight throw since Patti Franckowiak won two straight crowns in 1998 and 1999. Digman and Franckowiak are the only UWL throwers to win the league championship in the weight throw. Digman is the sixth athlete in WIAC history to sweep the shot put and weight throw at the same championships.
Other top finishers on the track Saturday included
Kelly Aldrich placing third (25.72) in the 200-meter dash and sixth (7.86) in the 60-meter dash.
Aly Reuvers was eighth (26.22) in the 200-meter dash.
Libby Brugger, who won the mile run Friday, was third (2:16.16) in Saturday's 800-meter run.
Claire Koenecke placed fifth (2:17.41) in the 800-meter run.

UWL's
Emma Malooly was second (10:33.19),
Madeline Sweeney sixth (10:38.04) and
Rachel Jeffers seventh (10:40.41) in the 3,000-meter run.
Along with Digman's first-place showing in the weight throw,
Brianna Schyvinck finished third (54-10 3/4) and
Pamela Gramer fourth (54-6 1/2). UWL had three of the top-six finishers in Saturday's triple jump as
Jessica Stelzner placed fourth (37-5 1/4), Addie Hubbard fifth (37-2 1/2) and Kyah Frederixon sixth (36-10 1/4).
UWL's
Hannah Zenkovich was second (3,402 points),
Ariel Malvitz third (3,098) and
Kylee Jostad ninth (2,907) in the pentathlon (60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, 800-meter run).
UWL returns to action Friday, March 6 at the Wartburg College (Iowa) Qualifier at 1:30 p.m. and the UW-Platteville Final Qualifier at 3 p.m.
