UWL Never Trails in Win at UW-River Falls

River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 86-55 victory at UW-River Falls Wednesday night in Don Page Arena. The Eagles, ranked ninth on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, moves to 11-2 overall.  UW-River Falls drops to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC. 

UWL's ranking of ninth is the best in school history. 

The Eagles never trailed Wednesday, racing out to an 11-2 lead as UWL made its first four shots from the field. UW-River Falls cut the lead to 13-11 with 4:57 left in the first quarter before UWL took a 21-15 lead after the first 10 minutes. UWL opened the second quarter on a 18-1 run to lead 39-16 with 4:54 remaining. The Eagles led by as many as 24 at 44-20 with 2:36 left after Emma Gamoke's three-pointer before the Falcons cut the halftime deficit to 46-28.  

UW-River Falls cut it to 50-35 with 7:28 remaining in the third quarter on a pair of Brianna Koop free throws, but UWL went on a 7-0 run to lead 57-35. The Eagles led, 64-45, after three quarters. UW-River Falls could get no closer than 17 points in the fourth quarter. 

UWL shot 47.8% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 63.6% (14-of-22) at the line. Dani Craig finished with 25 points and eight rebounds, going 11-of-18 from the field, including one-of-five from three-point range. She was two-of-two at the free throw line. With her 25 points, Craig went over 1,000 for her collegiate career (1,013).  In three seasons at UWL, Craig has totaled 761 points. She finished with 252 points at Cal State Fullerton in 2015-16 before transferring to UWL. 

Gamoke totaled 15 points and six rebounds on Wednesday, finishing five-of-nine from the field, including three-of-five from three-point range. She was two-of-two at the line. Ava Kramer finished with 12 points and three steals. 

UW-River Falls shot 36.4% from the field, including 20.0% (four-of-20) from three-point range, and 64.7% (11-of-17) at the line. Koop led the Falcons with 15 points while Crystal Pearson totaled 12 and Lori Wardynski 11. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, January 11 at UW-Stevens Point at 3 p.m.
