#18 UW-La Crosse 37, UW-Oshkosh 15
Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team earned its 30th straight win over UW-Oshkosh with a 37-15 victory Thursday night in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles, ranked 18th on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Top-25 Poll, improve to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans drop to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC.
UWL now leads the all-time series, 40-11, over UW-Oshkosh. The Titans have not defeated the Eagles since the 1989-90 season.
UWL is 64-7 in conference duals since 2006-07.
The Eagles won seven of 10 matches, including four by fall. Starting at 157-pounds Thursday night,
Grant Zamin gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead with a win by fall (5:59) over Muzi Sitshela. Zamin is first in the NWCA Division III rankings. UWL took an 11-0 lead as
Nick Fetzner won by technical fall (16-1, 6:17) over UW-Oshkosh's Oscar Ramos at 165-pounds.
Mitch Hertel's major decision (11-0) over AJ Stengel at 174-pounds gave the Eagles a 15-0 lead.
Connor Williams followed with a win by fall (1:42) over Bryce Herlache at 184-pounds to make it 21-0.
UW-Oshkosh got on the board at 197-pounds as Colten Cashmore won by decision (4-2) over UWL's
Isaac Lahr. The Titans' Jordan Lemcke followed with a win by fall (6:07) over
Isaac Gust at 285-pounds to cut the deficit to 21-9.
Tristan Jenny's win by fall (4:55) over Denis Murphy at 125-pounds gave UWL a 27-9 lead. After the Titans' AJ Schoenfuss won by fall (2:25) over
Brandon Murphy at 133-pounds to cut the Eagles' lead to 27-15, UWL's
Hayden Schlough and
Tyler Shackle earned wins in the final two matches. Schlough won by fall (2:08) at 141-pounds over Kobe Allen while Shackle won by major decision (16-2) over Brandon Lenczner at 149.
UWL returns to action Friday, January 24 hosting 25th-ranked UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
