Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's track & field team captured its eighth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Saturday night at UW-Platteville's Track & Field Complex.
The Eagles finished with 225.5 team points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 192.0 and UW-Stevens Point third with 125.0. UW-Stout placed fourth (83.0) followed by UW-Oshkosh (69.0), UW-Platteville (64.0), UW-Whitewater (44.5) and UW-River Falls (12.0).
It is UWL's league record 34th outdoor title in school history.
Savannah Rygiewicz captured a pair of individual titles on Saturday, winning the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.82) meter dash. She is the first UWL sprinter to win both events in the same championships since
Meg Heafy in 2016.
UWL also won the 4x100-meter relay Saturday with Allison Hampton,
Kelly Aldrich,
Payton Siehr and Rygiewicz (47.31).
The Eagles'
Betsy Schreier captured the triple jump title (39-4 1/2) Saturday.
Other top finishes on the track included the
Sydney Emmerich,
Katie Banie,
Valerie Jones and
Mara Schroeder placing second (3:56.29) in the 4x400-meter relay. Along with Rygiewicz winning the 100-meter dash, Aldrich placed seventh (12.47) and Siehr eighth (12.49) while in the 200-meter dash, Siehr was third (25.48) and Aldrich ninth (25.80).
UWL had four of the top-five finishers in the 400-meter hurdles with
Hannah Zenkovich second (1:03.60),
Emma Lawrence third (1:03.64),
Clair Shepardson fourth (1:05.32) and
Jessica Buss fifth (1:05.44). The Eagles also had four of the top-nine finishers in the 100-meter hurdles as Zenkovich placed fifth (14.74), Lawrence seventh (14.84),
Isabelle Kick eighth (14.87) and Shepardson ninth (15.09).
Schroeder was third (57.58) and
Emma Platzbecker eighth (59.60) in the 400-meter dash while
Libby Brugger placed fourth (2:16.73),
Claire Koenecke fifth (2:17.02) and Banie seventh (2:17.18) in the 800-meter run.
Brugger was fourth (4:41.13), Koenecke fifth (4:42.38),
Emma Malooly seventh (4:48.64) and
McKenzie Kirtz eighth (4:53.57) in the 1,500-meter run while
Hannah Beilke finished third (18:09.60) and
Annie Brekken seventh (18:32.01) in the 5,000-meter run.
UWL's
Kemmesha Thomas placed fourth (4,182 points) and
Ariel Malvitz fifth (4,173) in the heptathlon on Saturday. The event concluded with the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run. Friday's events included the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash.
In Saturday's field events,
Tess Miller was second (38-5 1/2) and Addie Hubbard sixth (36-2 1/4) in the triple jump while Lizzy Subbert tied for seventh (5-1 3/4) in the high jump. The Eagles'
Skye Digman finished third (45-4 1/4) and
Brianna Schyvinck fifth (44-8) in the shot put.
UWL returns to action Friday, May 10 hosting the UWL Eagle Open at 2 p.m.
